The corridors were busier then it was before I reached the infirmary, but not by much. Maids were skitting about getting the selected from the grandhall that were hungover, and into their rooms to doll them up for the cameras. I saw China being helped as she struggled to walk down the halls with just one servant holding her tall body up.
As my heels compressed the intricately designed carpet up the stairs, the maid who I had once asked for a coffee was fleeing up the staircase after me.
"H-Heres your coffee, my lady." She curtsied, taking a large breath of fresh air.
"Please don't, I'm Delilah." I introduced, taking the cup and platter into my hands as she giggled and dashed back off to assign some other duty.
I turned, laughing lightly under my breath as the rich aroma of hazelnut and vanilla wavered into my nose.
I was on the final stair, as I rounded the corner, the sound of my feet that was once muffled into the carpet was now clanking against the wooden surface.
"dern heels," I mumbled, balancing with perfect agile as I held the coffee in one hand, balanced on one foot, as I unstrapped the white heels, and tangled them into my fingers.
I now lingered about the halls in a contagious happiness that would catch someone at the graze of touch. I walking past the rooms of the selected when a sound was heard. I checked my feet, assuring myself no mice was squeaking. The maid who strode pass me didn't stop to check, nor did she look back as she was taking quick strides to a room down the hall.
I took one more step and the noise came again, this time louder and clearer. It was an animal or object, but a person. They seemed to be speaking quietly. As I passed several rooms, nothing came from the room until I reach the fourth one on my left.
"I'm sorry, father." A girl muttered. "I couldn't reach you until now. That nosey blonde...yeah, her names Delilah...she's been watching me since Christmas." It didn't take me long to realize the girl who was not a doubt on the phone, was Willow.
"No, I'm sorry." She whispered. "Lincoln's been arrested. We went along as planned but she panicked and it was all held against him. Yes, I told him, but he didn't listen. He's wrapped around her finger."
I was unsure of wether or not I should avoid the nosey name and just leave or listen harder.
"I try to spend more time dad, and do your plan, but it's hard. She's all Nancy-Freaking-Drew trying to figure it out...besides...I think she knows."
The coffee...untouched and warmly filled...slipped from my hands and crashed against the wooden surface. I jolted back, covering my mouth. The line went quiet, and I knew at this I had to do the only thing I knew...run.
I was in my room, the door shut and locked. I was pacing the room, my shoes tossed against the floor.
I always knew she was bad news. Ever since she set up Charleston and Feldspar. Ever since I discovered her as the woman in black after Christmas, when she got who I'm guessing as Lincoln to attack me, and then tried pinning on me...she was bad news. However, this...clarified it all.
I need to tell someone. The last time I tried to tell someone, they all thought I was crazy. Everyone except... The name popped into my memory and the first thing I did was pull out a parchment and pen.
"Dear Charleston," I wrote.
I miss you...so much. Your my friend, my best one, my sister...almost. Maybe that's why I trust you with the information your about to receive.
and I explained. I wrote down the night I was attacked and how I discovered the cape and mask at the sleepover. The conversation I overheard and all.
Please don't tell no one about this. Give me advice. I love you, Charleston.
Sincerely, your best friend...
Delilah.
As I licked it up, and sealed it with the Illéan stamp, a knock echoed across my room. I jumped, the cream colored envelope folding in my grasp.
"Delilah? Are you in here?" Willows voice was clear as day, causing me to cringe. Suddenly, Wanda ran from my closet, giving me a slight smile as she went to open the door.
"No..." I mouthed, as she gave me a questionable glare. "Come here." I motioned, and she obeyed.
"Tell her I'm not here." I whispered in her ear. "Give this to the post and tell them to send it in tonight. Do you understand?" Wanda squeezed my shoulder as she took the envelope and pointed the closet, and I obeyed; running into the room of dresses, shoes, and jewelry and I shut the door ever so quiet. My closet was big. Big enough for Tinsley and Wanda to make the dresses I already have lined up to wear.
"Oh, hello." I heard the door of selected #35 squeak open, and Wanda began. "I'm sorry, Delilah isn't here. She was down in the infirmary moments ago...maybe took a walk throughout the gardens to relieve the smell of...oh you know...alcohol."
"Thank you..." Was all Willow could muster before Wanda locked the door, and walked out, closing my suite door behind her.
