Chapter 3

Mehrma pov

My whole night was spent lost in past memories and regret. Stuff that I wish I had never done. Words I wish never escaped the premises of my lips. I got up from the bed, a hand wrapping my hair in a bun while I walked towards my desk and picked up my laptop. If I stayed in this room a minute long I would go insane.

The house was enveloped in darkness with only sunlight illuminating it. As it was a Sunday, everyone was probably sleeping in. I opened my laptop and started to busy myself with my top priority at the moment, which was getting rid of Mahnoor's fiancé. Something has happened in the past month that had really shook up Mahnoor really bad. But even after trying to pry it out of her and ask her directly she hadn't opened her mouth. She never really liked the guy, in honesty none of us did. He was baba's business partner's nephew. They approached baba with the proposal 6 months ago. At first the guy Zubaid looked okay. He was successful seemed kind enough and actually respected Mahnoor. He and his family was quite eager to get them engaged. But soon after the engagement his behavior towards Mahnoor changed. He remarked with silent jabs on her appearance and how simple she was. He mocked her for having a career in Business and that she wasn't a business minded person. Even though she was the one who worked alongside baba. At first we all thought it was just light jokes but then the escalated and he was calculated, in front of our parents he was the most perfect person but Mahnoor always seem uncomfortable whenever she was alone with him.

He wasn't just a calculated and narcissist person but he also had misogynic behavior. Even though his parents supported his sister, he always commented on her as well. Speaking of his sister, she was also friends with Muneza. Her twin sister who she saw on monthly basis or just events. They were twins but they were nothing alike. Since there parents divorce, since her mother took Muneza and left the three of them with their father, they haven't really bonded. Muneza always kept her distance with Mehrma, even often remarking about how different she was from me and it was a good thing.

I tried I really did tried to connect with her, but after I left for America, we didn't had much connection. Even though she didn't like me and Zunaira, she did respected Mahnoor a lot. Maybe because she was our elder sister, she loved Mahnoor like she was her mother. and it was a beautiful bond but at the same time, years of resentment between us forced us to keep our distance.

Zunaira was not a fan of Muneza, she openly showed it. Both of them had disagreements that they didn't hide. Muneza usually came once or twice a month to meet baba. Unlike her, we didn't bother to reconnect with the other parent. Our mother didn't try to reconnect either.

It was the messed up realty we lived, an incomplete family.

Finding something on Zubaid was like looking for white dot on a white paper. There was not even one single bad article on this guy, either he really was this good or he had good people to hide his bad acts. Looking through his socials, his company profile and articles, I couldn't find a single thing.
