Chapter 4
Shahvaiz POV
Shahzain and I soon excused ourselves from the group.
"Okay! What's up with you." He asked me as soon as we were out of ear distance. I took a deep breath as I recalled everything I just heard to him. He frowned then shook his head, I also told him what I think could be the reason he was forcing her.
"Zubaid Akhtar." I looked at him in question. "Zubaid Akhtar! Wo pagal misogynist banda?" I asked and he nodded. "I saw the name on the search bar. Zunaira was researching on him." I looked at him still trying to comprehend, who was Mahnoor engaged to. "What was she thinking when she accepted the proposal?" I asked shaking my head in disappointment. "If she was asked and you talk as if you don't know Zubaid."
(Zubaid Akhtar, that misogynist idiot.)
"So what should we do?" I asked him who gave me a look in return. "What do you mean what should we do? They weren't even ready to let us enter their house, and you expect to break her engagement off. Like yes she would listen to you." I passed him a glare ready to argue back but stopped amidst as I knew he was right.
"We have to do something."
Mahnoor's pov
I looked at myself in the mirror, my face looked worn out, my eyes looked dull, I looked like a skeleton, like someone else not me. I was never this dull, I always had energy in me. A single guy has ruined so much in me by simply just existing in a few months, how will I live with him for my whole life?
I took a deep breath and exited the room.
Whatever happens, happens for a reason.
I greeted my in laws and before Zubaid could approach me, I moved towards Muneza. She and Rameen were good friends.
In the dining room
We all settled into our seats, I sat across Zubaid, so I wouldn't have to sit near him. I sat next to Mehrma on one side and Shahvaiz on the other. Speaking of him, he was also busy glaring at Zubaid along side Mehrma. He had clearly heard my and Mehrma's conversation. I just wished he wouldn't make a fuss about it. Something was going on with everyone.
The obvious tension between Mehrma and Shahzain, Alizey trying to talk to Armaan who was for some reason ignoring her. Muneza and Mehrma passing each other silent glances. Same was for Zubaid and Shahvaiz, it felt both of them were happening some sort of battle. And then there was baba who looked furious for some reason. Which was weird because he rarely got angry. Tonight was going to end in a mess for sure.
Taya abu was busy discussing something with Mr Akhtar.
Mrs Akhtar however was busy asking everyone's relationship status, probably trying to get someone hitched with Rameen, typical mother behavior. At least someone was getting it. My mother didn't care much to come tonight. Like always she sent Muneza along side her step sister with an excuse of being busy.
Maybe her not being here was for the best. If she would've been here, baba and her would've argued over something. And I really wasn't in the mood to play peace maker.
Third person's pov
Shahzain needed to talk to Mehrma regarding this engagement issue so he did whhat he thought was right. Not what really was right. He glanced at his wife who was quite and he knew she must be thinking about there past and her words so he on purpose spilled water on both of them.
Mehrma stood abruptly and looked at her clothes that were wet.
Shahzain also stood up and apologized. Mehrma looked at him then excused herself. Soon did Shahzain too.
Upstairs
Mehrma was going towards the stairs when suddenly she was pulled inside a dark room ,before she could process everything Shahzain spoke "We need to talk." Mehrma stared toward him even in the dark his black orbs were shining taking her breath away.
Mehrma composed herself and said "There is nothing to talk about." Mehrma spoke as she turned to leave. Shahzain looked at her and spoke "It's about Mahnoor."
"What about her?" Mehrma questioned as she looked at him, she was sure it was about Shahvaiz hearing there conversation. "You can't possibly be letting her marry him." She gulped at his words. "It is none of your concern. And she's...happy" She tried excusing herself but he stepped in front of her, "You've got to be kidding me, you're going to let her marry that misogynist idiot?" He asked her annoyed at what he heard her say. He thought she would fight but would still want what's better for her sister.
"She's happy? I've been here for what 1 day and I can already see that she's miserable." Shahzain exclaimed looking at her directly. "She's not a child. And you're definitely not her brother, so don't worry yourself with our problems."
