Chapter 11
Zunaira's pov
The atmosphere in the dining room was horrendous, fake smile, small talk and quite glances, everything I am against off happening as if it was a regular thing, people acted as if it was the most ordinary thing. The act they put forward was laughable, the awkwardness dripping from every corner, as I saw Mehrma once again passing a tight lipped smile. How were her cheekbones not hurting? The amount of audacity this room had to could alone feed a whole town's people.
Fake complementing to get in good graces???
Get a life people, no one cares if you liked my earrings, I'm not here for these truck load of 'OHMYGOD you have your father's eyes.' 'I always knew you would grow up to be this beautiful.' BLAH BLAH BLAH.
I would've appreciated their comments if it didn't came with subtle judgements, and weird eye contacts between mother's and their daughters. Like if you wanna gossip about me at least wait for me to be out of your reach. The comments started right there on the damn table.
Now I understand why Mehr was so against. i buried my face in the pillow groaning.
WHY DON'T I JUST LISTEN!!!
Mehrma's POV
Standing is this dimly lit hallway, I was contemplating my my life choices and wondering what unhealed part of me thought the decisions I made were logical. They weren't. And the one I was about to make was also not. My right fist raised again, taking a deep breath I tapped against the wooden door.
Maybe I should turn around, I still had time. A few seconds passed and there was no response from the other end, maybe I should turn around. Right as I decided to turn around, I heard the door opening.
Shahzain's pov
Yawar's words, Baba's glare and Ami's worriedness clouded my vision as I slumped back on my bed. A deep breath leaving my lips. Maybe it was reckless on my end, maybe I should've controlled my emotions better. But Mehrma's words kept replaying in my mind. Was it really that easy to move on from me, did she really feel that way?
A knock on the door got me out of my daze. Holding in a breath, i pushed my wait on my elbows lifting myself from the bed. It was probably another lecture awaiting for me across that door. MY fingers gripped the handles as I pulled it open. My eyes landing on the very reason of my misery.
Mehrma stood their, a nervous expression marring her face, her fingers flying to pull a strand behind her ears. She was nervous and kept fidgeting with her fingers. I kept staring at her, my eyes not driving away once from her beautiful face.
I saw as she closed her eyes, a small huff leaving lips as she pressed her lips together, annoyed. She opened her mouth once, twice before she had the guts to finally say what she wanted to say. The thing that drove her till here.
Mehrma: "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said those words."
My lips lifted in amusement as I leaned my weight on the door frame, my arms folding in front of me as I waited for her to continue.
She looked so cute when she was flustered, I knew for a fact that it took a lot for her to walk up to me and apologize. But who was I to leave it as it is and not drag it out.
Shahzain:"Kyun?" (Why?)
Mehrma:"You know why?"
Shahzain:"Yaad nahi. " (Don't recall)
I said with a smirk. She was flushed, however I'm not sure if it was with anger or out of shyness.
Mehrma:"You know what I'm leaving?" With that she turned and walked away.
An imposter smile on my face as I closed the door. Maybe things could change. Maybe it was better to let things happen on there own accord and not think everything to the very end. Usually overthinking destroys the very little we have.
Third person's POV
Bright light illuminated the dim room, fingers on the keyboard as the person prepared someone's execution. How easily the roamed around the keyboard, not once hesitating or stopping to once think what this would leave up to. How many lives it would destroy, how many people would be emotionally wrecked, and may not even recover again.
Maybe some people had it in them to be the evil in someone else's lives to find peace in their own.
