Chapter 10
Third person's POV
Four days since the decision of leaving their life behind to go settle in somewhere temporarily. Four days of havoc in the house. Four days since Mehrma talked to her father or Shahzain.
Mehrma hasn't heard from Shahzain since the phone call, he had just completely vanished like he didn't exist. Something he was quite good at, running away when confrontations came. He hadn't bother to come along with everyone which was good for Mehrma but...but was he okay?
His phone was turned off. She was worried because she knew him he was insane and he might've done something. She was scared that something had happened to him. She heared Zunaira asking about him. "Shahzain bhai kaha hai?" Mahnoor also piped in before giving her a look. What was the deal with them and their recent obsession with Shahzain. Ruhaan replied that they haven't heard from him and he was probably just busy.
(Where is Shahzain?)
Mehrma's fingers played with her ring as she twirled it around lost in her own thought, maybe she's been to rude with him. maybe she shouldn't have said that. But if she hadn't said that she wouldn't be able to drive him away and this time if she shattered she wouldn't be able to collect herself again.
Shahvaiz looked at Mehrma who looked unsettled, something urgent obviously meant I can't stand all of this, I need a break. He didn't knew the full story but Shahzain had spilled a little, before he vanished.
A mistake
She thinks it was a mistake,
She thinks we were a mistake
He had understood that Shahzain had some sort talk with Mehrma which leaded up to this outburst.
Abdul Taya Abu stood with Azhar when the main gate was opened and Shahzain walked in. His hair was disheveled, his eyes looked tired and he looked a bit sick, like his energy had been drained. Mehrma's eyes landed on his right hand knuckled, that were bruised quite badly. Her eyes travelled back to his face, there was no bruise anywhere else, so most probably he wasn't in a fight. Most probably
Mehrma rolled her eyes as a sad realization came to her, He still hadn't changed, he hadn't even bother to try to be different. Mahnoor and came and stood beside her, she didn't say something but Mehrma knew that Mahnoor had also noticed the bruises. Everyone had probably.
Shahzain: "Ek kaam aa gaya tha."
His excuse was lousy, he shrugged at Shahzain when he saw his father's glare. He'll worry about that later.
_____________________________________
Zunaira looked at the two people who were really trying not to be obvious, but the hate was really strong. Or was it love? Who knows. She knew that asking Mehrma would be useless, and Mahnoor was a secret keeper so no can do, she didn't know Shahzain that well to ask him directly but she had a good thing going on with Shahvaiz and Armaan, would they spill?
Everything was possible with right motivation.
But before any of that she had to mentally prepare herself for living with too many people, she didn't even remember half of the family. How was she supposed to settle down there.
She had just completed her Masters degree, it was supposed to be her time to enjoy life not change her life.
At the haveli
Everyone got out of there cars ,When everyone was going to enter ,Mehrma was stood still in her place . She was lost in her own thoughts. Shahvaiz saw her still so he spoke"Kya hua Mehrma." Mehrma met his gaze and shook her head in no like a 5 year old. Shahvaiz remembered the 5 year old Mehrma who did this when ever she didn't want to do something. He went towards her and took hold of her hand and dragged her through the doors.
In living room
The living room was tense, Mehrma and Mahnoor had greeted everyone but Zunaira stood there panicked, so many people, her face was contoured in a panic. Armaan and Azaan who stood opposite of her, were trying to control their smiles, She looked vulnerable and kind of lost.
Armaan looked at the woman who was all confident in her house with 3 people in it, but panicked when there were more than 10. He observed as she played with her fingers, while following Mahnoor's lead, greeting everyone. A chick following the mother hen. A chuckle left his mouth at that thought. Azaan gave him a look wondering why Armaan was having random laughing attacks. He just shook his head in response.
The house had a warmth that was welcoming maybe it was because there were mothers here who awaited for their kids. Or maybe it were the hearts of people that were really welcoming.
Mehrma didn't approach Dada abu, she greeted him from afar. She couldn't bring herself to fall more, coming here was already a big step and she won't be bowing more, especially to the man who ruined her childhood for a few votes.
In the backyard
The youngsters were sitting together discussing what has happened in the last 16 years. Yawar's daughter Amal was sitting in Mehrma's lap. The baby blabbered as she touch Mehrma's hair, Zunaira sat right next to Mehrma gazing at the baby in awe. Zunaira loves kids but not many people around her had kids.
Yawar and Shazain were standing in a corner and it looked as it Shahzain was being lectured and Yawar looked mad. Mahnoor looked at the duo with worry. Something in her told her it had something to do with the bruises in Shahzain's bruised knuckles.
Mehrma saw as Shahzain stormed off. A part of her wanted to comfort him, but a much bigger part of her hated him for his recklessness. She huffed in a breath maybe somethings can never change.
Mahnoor saw Mehrma's expression and tight lip smile was the only thing she could offer. She didn't know what else she can do to help.
Zunaira was still lost in Amal, not paying much heed to anyone else.
At the dining room
The dinner was an awkward experience for everyone. Small talks were being made to fill up the spaces but it still felt void. Mehrma stared at the food in her plate thinking how was she going to endure the next few months when she's tired on the first day.
Mahnoor sat their wondering if this was a good new start or a really bad one. On one hand she was free off Zubaid while on the other hand she was stuck in an unknown place.
