Cap. 5: Forget about it

When Eddy opened his eyes again, he was laying on a soft surface and a needle was stuck in his arm. It took him about thirty seconds to realize that he had been hospitalized. Jane was near him checking his parameters.

Jane: "Oh you're awake, good"

She said before sitting next to him. Fortunately, he had still his clothes on and he was laying just on top of the bed with a blanket on

Jane: "You had a pheromones overdose. Basically, your system reacted violently to Mr. Yang's pheromones. You were under the pill to suppress the green pheromones, but since the doctors have to take it every day it blocks just the smell of the pheromones and not the pheromones itself, and usually this is enough, but this time your body decided to act differently. We are running some tests but I already know the answer if you're ready to listen for it"

Her voice was calm despite Eddy collapsing for good some hours before. He still had the uneasy sensation but the headache and the dizziness were almost gone.

Eddy: "What are you talking about? I thought doctors took regular suppressants..."

Jane: "They are suppressants but the weakest kind, since they have to take them so often. Obviously, this speech doesn't apply to mated doctors but you are not one of them so you have to be, basically, constantly under suppressants. In normal condition Brett's pheromones couldn't make you any effect since you couldn't sniff the smell, and it should have been like this also for the heat, but I discovered something funny"

She shifted in the chair and handed a medical folder to Eddy

Jane: "When you met Brett for the surgery, you couldn't have a reaction because he was still under suppressants and you had taken the general pill. When you met him the second time, you met him for too short to actually have a reaction, idem for the last time before his heat. But when he was having his heat, the amount of pheromones he was releasing was too much even for the specific pill you took and you felt sick. You couldn't know it was Brett's pheromones because as I already explained the pill covers the smell, and it should have been enough but apparently you have a really high sensitiveness to his pheromones and so even if you couldn't perceive their smell you reacted to them. Basically, the pill covers you for a little quantity of pheromones, if the amount goes over the 'x quantity' you start reacting to them. Normally even if the amount goes beyond it not smelling the pheromones is enough to not have any reaction, but as I said you're too sensitive for it to cover the excess"

It took him another moment to process what he was earing

Eddy: "You're basically saying me that till now I didn't have a reaction for pure luck?"

Jane: "Exactly"

Eddy: "And that the suppressant I took was ineffective?"

Jane: "Not quite. It works but not as with other people. Usually not smelling the pheromones prevent any physical reaction even if it's your sensitivity and it usually works till the pheromones are not that much. Since doctors work with patients for few hours, that amount it's far from being reached, even if the patient is in their heat, but for you, that amount with Brett it's actually really low"

Eddy: "Wait...so the amout of pheromones I can stand without reacting it's lower than with other people?"

Jane: "Yes, and for Brett it's the same. The only type of suppressants that actually work for your case it's the complete one, so the one you gave Brett when you first met him and the ones he'd been taking for all his life"

That was the first time Eddy ever listened for something like this

Eddy: "So? What does this mean? That I can't stay in the same room with him? That if I met him again without suppressants his pheromones will kill me?"
