Opening the eyes, something simple, one of the first things you learn to do in your very first minutes of life but for Brett that simple gesture was almost impossible. His head was immobilized and his eyes were swollen and purple. All around him was noisy, almost too noisy to become white noise. The light above his head, for what he was able to see was too bright, and everything weighted so much.

Brett: "Mhnhmhnmhnmnh"

He grumbled as he tried to hint a movement with poor results

Nurse: "The patient of room 403 is awake!"

She screamed as the parameters changed on the little monitor on her workstation. She quicky reached for her work phone and dialled the internal number for calling Doctor Lee

Nurse: "Mr. Yang is awake"

Doctor Lee: "Good, call in Doctor Chen while I explain to him what happened"

He said before taking his way for the reanimation.

Some steps, above the whistle in his ears, made their way to brush away what remained of the deafening rumbling, and all came to focus as a hand landed gently on his shoulder

Doctor Lee: "Brett? Can you hear me, Brett?"

Brett: "Mhnmhnmhmhnmhn"

Doctor Lee: "I'll remove the head immobilizer now that you are awake. We didn't find any fracture on your spine but some of your ribs are damaged so we preferred keeping this on while you were still unconscious"

He faintly heard for the click of the strange thing around his head before his neck was free to move

Doctor Lee: "Now stay still and let my hands guide you...it's just precautional to not strap your muscles"

Always so gently the hands cupped his nape and started to move his head slowly till his neck and jaw were finally able to move on their own

Doctor Lee: "Cool...now, I bet you have a lot of questions"

He said removing his hands and checking with a little torc the swollen eyes

Doctor Lee: "You had a car accident about two weeks ago, a pretty bad one actually. You had serious internal damages, and various contusions...thank God, nothing that we couldn't resolve with surgery, even if now you have at least six months' worth of recovery. Fortunately, you have a pretty good medical insurance...but I'm sorry to inform you that..."

Doctor Chen: "Here I am!"

He interrupted while waltzing toward the cot. As the voice of who he supposed being another doctor arrived his ears, a strong scent of oranges hit his nose, causing a little blood to come out. Doctor Lee was quick in cleaning it without pressing on the bruised skin. The scent became almost unbearable as the other man reached for the bed and took his place on the side of it. He couldn't see him clearly, but he knew that the strong perfume stinging his nose belonged to that man

Doctor Lee: "I let you tell him about it, since you're here, but let me call the nurse first, he keeps lose blood from his nose"

As he reached for another tissue the man tried to stir on the bed. Oh no this was bad, he could strap his stitches. Eddy promptly blocked him gently with his hands, with the only result of making the man flinch even more

Brett: "Oranges..."

He mumbled painfully to be heard just from the man above him. Oh-oh. This was even worse. Eddy flinched and took some steps away from the bed with his eyes opened in shock

Eddy: "Tell the nurse to bring a suppressant for pheromones..."

Doctor Lee: "Pheromones...wait, oh my God"
