Your POV
How I ever managed to get myself into this mess, I will never know. I'm currently surrounded by a whole group of enemies. Three of them are humans carrying crossbows with wooden stakes and the other three are vampires. I observe them, of the humans, there's a teenage girl, a teenage guy, and an older man. They all look like they at least know what they're doing but I can tell the man is more experienced than the other two. The vampires consist of a blonde teenage girl and two men. I notice that the human girl seems uncomfortable and keeps rather close to and just behind one of the male vampires while the other two humans stand firm and are steadier. It should be easy enough to get free I was just hoping to not have to fight this evening. They close in their circle and the human girl's vamp shield speaks up, "Who are you and why are you in Mystic Falls?"

"Oh," I say grinning, "That's where I am, I didn't notice."

"Look you seem like you could be a pretty strong ally," this comes from the girl behind him, "Just tell us who you are."

"You know it's not often that you find humans working together with vamps," I respond, "I bet they've been compelling you."

"They can't we all have vervain in our systems," this coming from the teenage guy.

"That explains a lot," I mumble under my breath.

"Look, either you can tell us who you are and come with us quietly and calmly or we can do this the hard way," states the blonde vampire.

I scoff, "Why would I ever go with you? No, I'm getting rather bored of this conversation and will make my exit in just a few moments.

"Awfully confident, aren't you?" asks the third vampire, who had stayed quiet and observant up to this point.

"I can kill every one of you before most of you even get a chance to think. Skills like that does wonders for a person's self-confidence," I answer with a wicked grin on my face. Before any of them can respond, a few others make an entrance. This group consists of a couple of familiar faces, those being Klaus and Rebekah Mikaelson, and a werewolf. I roll my eyes but try not to show my concern. This will be harder than I thought.

"Yes, more bodies and they'll all walk out of these woods alive," I freeze, I'd know that voice anywhere and it's the last one that I wanted to hear any time soon but now he's standing right beside me.

A look of realization seems to dawn on Klaus' face, "Guess Kol was right, it is a pissed off ex. That's the last thing we need right now." With this, he and Rebekah relax and stand down.

"The rest of you can stand down as well. I can handle (Y/N) if need be," Elijah says, still standing right next to me, "though I doubt there will be any need." The others cautiously put away the crossbows and relax the slightest bit, but still on alert.

"What makes you think I won't still rip them to shreds right here?" I ask, still sure to keep my voice calm and cocky.

"Because humanity or not, you would still trust Klaus and Bekah. They're allies to these people and you wouldn't betray them like that," Elijah answers.

I scoff and glare at Klaus and Rebekah, "They left me too. Why would I trust them?"

"You don't truly believe that they left you of their own free will and you still trust them," he pauses, "Besides, if you were going to, you would've already 'ripped them to shreds' as you so eloquently put."

"If we're going to have a therapy session can we at least do it at the house, preferably without all the extra, unnecessary eyes," Rebekah whines, "It's cold out here and my feet hurt."

"I second that. The part about wanting to do this at the house not the whiny bit," Klaus adds.

"Thank you for your help," Elijah says, addressing the rest of the group, "We can handle it from here." With this, everyone else turns and heads back out of the woods. Before I can say another word, I've been picked and speed carried to some mansion and am now standing in the middle of a comfy, warm living room.

I watch and wait for someone to speak up but Kol walks into the room instead. He has two cups of coffee and offers one to me, "I told you guys it was (Y/N)."

I accept the coffee and take a sip of it as Rebekah whines from the couch, "Where's my coffee, Kol?"

"In the kitchen in the coffee pot, Bekah," he answers with a chuckle before plopping down onto the couch.

She huffs and gets up from the couch to stomp her way to the kitchen as Elijah turns away from the fireplace to look at me, "I understand that you're angry-"

"Angry? Of course (Y/N)'s angry. I would be too if the love of my life abandoned me to track down and protect an ex-girlfriend," Klaus dramatically states, looking up from the drawing in his lap.

"Might want to add hurt to the list," Rebekah says as she reenters the room and sits back down on the couch.

"Oh, I want to play too. Let's add betrayed," Kol chimes in sarcastically.

"You three are not helping," Elijah mumbles in annoyance.

I turn my back to all four of them to look out the window, "They're not helping you. I on the other hand find them quite helpful. They're saying the things that I can't put into words." I pause to think as the room goes silent, except for the faint sound of Klaus' pencil against his paper. Having gathered my thoughts, I face Elijah again, "Did you really think she couldn't protect herself? Or perhaps, you still loved her and loved her more than me? Was I not enough?"

There's a look of pain in his eyes as he answers, "That's not it. I loved you just as much if not more than her but imagine if you knew that the first person you ever loved was in danger. Would you not do anything to protect them?"

"So, you did still love her. Even after she broke her heart you sacrificed everything to save her. And no, if I knew that they could protect themselves, I wouldn't have gone off on an absurd quest to save them," I respond.

"(Y/N), what do you think of this drawing? Something is missing but I can't pinpoint what," Klaus asks and I take a seat beside him to look over his shoulder at the drawing. Art is something he and I always shared. Right now, he's drawing a landscape and I can see almost immediately what he doesn't, "There's no life. Not even a single bird. Other than that, it's beautiful."

He mumbles a thank you as he goes back to his drawing and behind me, Elijah speaks again, "Why are you not as angry with him as you are with me. He's the one that went off after Katerina first?"

"He chose to do that. He didn't force you to come along," I answer simply, "And before you even ask, I'm not angry with Bekah and Kol either. You threatened them, they had no choice. Hell, even Finn would've stayed had you not threatened him."

Elijah sighs and I can feel him right behind me with his hand on the back of the couch to either side of my head, "I was greedy and stupid," he pauses and takes a deep breath, "What can I do to make it up to you? Please, let me make this right, even if you won't have me again."

That last part punches me in the gut. What he doesn't realize is that I never stopped loving him and I probably never will. I can't, I tried. I sigh, "It'll take time but all you have to do to reobtain my trust is earn it."

"Then that's what I'll do," with this he kisses the top of my head before exiting the room and probably heading to his bedroom.
