He was the anti hero, the bad boy that drew attention wherever he went. Despite your better judgement you were unable to lock him out, and thus he snuck right into the valves of your heart, dragging you into the crowd as the music played, but it was in the background as all that you could focus on was him, he seemed calm in this environment with no troubles or his past affecting him. His hands grabbed your own as he turned you through the flurry of people; you were human, you didn't know why he had dragged you on a night out, perhaps it were that it wouldn't matter if your life was put at risk.

You were just human, an expendable piece of meat that would one day shrill and die. It was a problem to be entranced by someone like him though the attraction could not be helped. Damon Salvatore was irresistible, the worst thing was that he knew it, and he could no doubt hear your heart beating profusely in the cage of your chest. Stefan was the good brother, it'd have made more sense if you had been pulled to him, but instead Damon's darkness and brooding exterior had pulled you under and you were drowning.

Nothing or nobody could help you, you were a lost cause as you gazed with amazement at him. One of your hands slipped from his own, going up to streak along his cheek, feeling the ageless exterior beneath your fingertips. It was insane to believe that he was over one hundred years old, that was nothing short of the truth, his entire appearance was a deceit to appeal to his prey. Damon froze from the contact, refraining from moving away, your touch was so soft and gentle, no one had treated him in such a way.

He was always seen to be rough around the edges, and he was, and thus from then on every one that he had ever met treated him like so. It was something that he didn't enjoy in the slightest, he'd like to forget for a moment that he was a monster, and it wasn't hidden deep down, he allowed his hunger to get the best of him the majority of the time, and in this moment he stopped it from happening again. A kiss was all he wanted, but it would be cruel to taint you from his lips, you deserved better. Anyone was better than him.

Walking the thin line to him was nothing other than a death sentence, each person that he had ever cared about had died, and allowing you to follow the path would be allowing the slaughter to carry on. "Damon..." The vampire shut his eyes from the sound of your voice, it hurt to ignore the calling out that you prompted him with, but it was for the best. Each instance in which he heard your heart flutter a pang would be sent straight to his own, reminding him for once in his life to not be selfish.

The best thing to do was pretend to be selfish with someone other than you, a mortal that walked around in a suit that would one day fray. He released your other hand, stepping away from the contact as he cupped the inner corner of your elbows, gulping down to remind himself of the journey he had returned to in this town of Mystic Falls. "Y/n... I can't... I have to get to Katherine..." Yes that was right, she was supposedly still in that tomb, rotting away from starvation. "I'm sorry." Fell from his lips, barely audible, but you heard nevertheless.
