When I found my journal on my bed after school on Tuesday, I knew, and I couldn't believe it.
"You know I didn't want to go alone, Chloe," she complained over the phone.
"Well, why Christian out of all the other guys who asked you?"
She paused before sighing into the receiver. "It's kind of embarrassing."
"What do you mean?" I put her on speaker so I could go back to clipping my toenails.
"Your brother just reminds me of Liam, okay."
What?
"What did you just say?" I laughed. And then I thought about it, she was right.
They both had a large curly afro, Ivory-colored skin, and were just about the same height. And not to mention that they both ran through girls like they were running a marathon.
"That explains it." I smiled and shook my head. "I can't believe this."
Before I knew it, it was Friday, and we were all lined up on Lindsay's lawn. Side by side, we all stood in front of Lindsay who had her Canon camera pointed at us. Alex and me, Chase and Yanique, and much to my annoyance, Christian and Sierra.
"Smile!" She pressed down on the capture button and the lights flashed brightly at us.
"Now switch poses!"
I glanced up at Alex and he was looking down at me through his transparent framed glasses. He looked very handsome, and as we had planned, he was wearing a black suit with a baby blue undershirt. A black bow tie sat around his neck and his black hair was neatly gelled to perfection.
"Is it okay if I-"
"Yes." He moved his arm down from my shoulders to my waist.
We looked back at Lindsay, and she snapped us again.
We eventually broke off into individual couples so that we could take more pictures.
Sierra looked stunning in her emerald dress, and I still was in disbelief that Christian was wearing a dark green suit. His white shirt underneath toned it down nicely. They both looked very coordinated.
Yanique was wearing a purple strapless dress that stopped a little too far above her knees. She had her arm wrapped around Chase's and she smiled brightly at Lindsay. Chase was wearing a black suit that fit him a bit more snuggly than everyone else's. The top two buttons of his wrinkle-free white shirt were unhooked, revealing a fraction of his chest. It was an unusual look, but he pulled it off, no surprise there. The front of his hair wasn't hanging over his forehead like usual but was combed to the back of his head along with the rest of his hair. He looked... Hot.
I found my eyes drifting off to look at him every few seconds, no matter how hard I tried to stop myself, I kept aching to see him. I wanted to see every move he made, every smile that came across his face. I also couldn't help but notice the way he loosely placed his arm around his girlfriend's waist. He wore a small smile on his lips during the pictures, and I could tell that it wasn't genuine.
The whole time, I wanted to smack that huge grin off Yanique's face. I wondered if she couldn't tell that she was annoying, that Chase most likely couldn't wait to get the day over with.
There must've been a reason why he developed feelings for me. He was probably falling out of love with her. Nobody could just randomly be unfaithful to someone they loved, he must not love her, I thought. Then why was he still with her?
At one point, I found that Sierra and I were staring at him at the same time. He was fiddling with his boutonniere and Yanique helped to pin it onto his collar. Sierra's eyes met mine and I immediately dropped them to the ground. What would she think if she saw me staring at him? What would even be my explanation? That he had food in his teeth? I needed to rehearse some lies if I was going to keep this act up.
