Chloe's POVThe same second that Greyson turned to look at Chase, I used the opportunity to move to his side and he immediately maneuvered me to stand behind him. Greyson's eyes widened in response, and he turned to face him fully. As he stared at the both of us in bewilderment, I began to notice that Chase's shoulders were beginning to rise and fall quickly as he tried to contain his anger. I could only imagine how he felt since he was seeing him for the first time since he beat him up because of what he did to me. I just knew that he was containing an adrenaline rush just standing across from him.
From where I was standing, I was unable to see Chase's face, but I could see Greyson's. His small lips were parted, his eyes were huge and his hand was stuck midair from when he was emphasizing his words while talking to me. It had been a few seconds since any of us said anything as we just stood there staring at each other in silence.
I tugged on Chase's sleeve, trying to give him a hint that we should leave but then a smile broke out on Greyson's lips and it took me off guard.
"Don't you have anything better to do, pretty boy?" he asked and I felt Chase's body go still. When he responded to him with silence, Greyson stupidly decided that the best thing to do was to continue talking.
He raised a blond eyebrow. "What? Cat got your tongue? The last time I saw you, you had a lot to say. What's changed?"
"Did you lose every bit of sense you had when I smashed your face into the wall?" Chase spoke and my eyes widened at his choice of words. I wasn't expecting him to be kind to him but, I wasn't exactly expecting his first few words to him after everything would be so gruesome. It had been a year, did he still feel so strongly toward him?
"Oh, coming off strong I see."
"Beat it," Chase demanded but Greyson cocked his head in amusement.
"You think you can get rid of me so easily?" The corner of his mouth jolted upward into a condescending smirk and I sighed heavily when I realized how badly this could all go.
"I thought I made it clear the last time we were in the same room, fuckface. Unless you want another broken nose, I suggest you stay the fuck away." Chase's voice was calm and cold, yet it held so much warning that I was surprised that Greyson didn't just turn around and walk the other way.
"Who do you think you are?" he scoffed. "You think you can show up like some fucking superhero wearing a cape and tell me what to do?"
"If you think otherwise, I'd love to hear it."
"Let her speak for herself, I barely got five minutes to talk to her and here you are once again."
"Let her speak for herself? What are you? Fucking dumb? Does she look like she wants anything to do with you?" He gestured toward me standing silently behind him, and I avoided Greyson's eyes as they tried to search mine. What was he searching for? Was he really that naive to think that he could ever have a chance to talk to me privately again? Did he really think that I'd willingly have a conversation with him?
"She's only standing behind you because you shoved her there. That's what you've always done, you always come out of nowhere and make decisions for her."
"He's not making any decisions for me Greyson," I chimed in and tried to ignore how insignificant my voice sounded compared to both of theirs. He turned his attention back to me and scowled.
"Yes he is, he always has. When we were together, we couldn't do anything without you running everything by him first and it was annoying as hell."
"And you don't think that tells you something?" Chase asked and his hand which lingered on my side tightened as he kept me in place behind him.
