Chloe's POVWith everything going on, I had forgotten that I scheduled my third driving lesson for that evening at six pm. Despite the fact that my mind wasn't fully in tune with the lesson, I still managed to learn how to do a two-point-turn and complete one successfully too. I tried not to notice the instructor's impressed looks and how his eyebrows rose over the rim of his glasses when I pulled effortlessly into a parking spot.
At the end of the lesson, I drove home which wasn't as intimidating as I expected it to be. We were practicing in the parking lot of the driving school which was about a mile away from my house, so it was a simple drive back. When I cautiously pulled up my driveway, I noticed Lindsay's mini-van parked to the side and my heart did a back flip. Chase had talked to her and it seemed like she came over to talk to me.
After scheduling my next lesson with my instructor for the following Wednesday, I hesitantly walked to my front door.
I found her in the kitchen placing a white ceramic container covered with saran wrap into the fridge. With my hands pushed into the back pockets of my jean shorts, I approached her.
"Hi Lindsay, what do you have there?"
She quickly faced me and a bright, white, smile spread across her diamond-shaped face. After closing the fridge, she wiped the palms of her hands into the fabric of her blue linen blouse. It was then that it occurred to me that it had been a while since I'd talked to her; the last time being the night I found Yanique in her kitchen.
"Hi there! Its a casserole that you guys can have for dinner tonight," she answered and walked to stand in front of the island, facing me. "How are you?"
"Oh, thank you." I scratched the back of my neck. "I'm okay." I wasn't sure how true that statement was and I could tell by the look on her face that she wasn't either.
"How has your day been so far?" she asked, her voice gentle.
"It's been alright. I had work, and just got back from a driving lesson. What about yours?"
Her eyes lit up. "How is work going? Do you like it?"
Appreciating the small talk before the big conversation, I allowed my shoulders to relax as I replied. "I love it actually. I'm learning so much, it's interesting how much I know already in such little time."
"That's not surprising. You're usually great at everything you do."
"Thanks." I smiled.
"I'm happy that Jessica offered you that job. It'll look great on your college applications," she gleamed and I nodded in response.
Even though I still didn't know what my plan was after high school and especially since finding out that I'd have a baby to take care of, I still agreed with her. What I did know however, was the fact that I wanted to do something within the health care field. I was falling more and more in love with everything I had been doing at work and it was beginning to paint a picture for me.
"Do you have any plans for the rest of the day?" she asked and I glanced out the window at the lowering sun.
I wasn't planning on going out again for the day, considering that I had to be up at six the next morning. I shook my head and glanced at my watch, seeing that it was after seven already. My original plan was to invite Sierra and Emma over to watch a movie, but then I was hit with a driving lesson. For some reason, it always took me by surprise. I figured I'd have to start writing it on my calendar from that day forth.
"Nope, I'm about to wind down. Why?"
"Well, I was wondering if we could sit and chat on the back deck," she informed me with her smile still in tact.
