A/N: Another picture of Chase.
Chloe's POV
"You really need to get your license Chloe," Christian muttered as he drove down the street towards our school.
Lindsay had taken all three of us to the DMV to get our learner's permit six months prior, however, only Christian and Chase passed the driving portion of the test. I failed when I took mine because not only did I not stop at two of the stop signs, but I also almost ran over a squirrel and ended up swerving into the opposite lane, and almost crashed into an oncoming car. If it wasn't for the driving instructor's emergency break, I would have done more than fail my road test that day.
"I know," I sighed. "I really don't want to take that test again though. What if I get the same driving instructor? The poor guy was scared for his life the last time he had to drive with me."
He laughed out loud. "Well, you have to suck it up because I am starting to get tired of driving you everywhere."
"Wow," I rolled my eyes.
"I mean, come on. I wouldn't mind having you borrow my car but that can't happen if you don't have your license."
"We both know that even if I had my driver's license you still wouldn't let me drive your Mercedes Christian."
He cocked his head to the side and smiled, "touché."
"I can't be that bad at driving, am I?"
"Chloe, you look straight ahead when you back up."
"I do not!"
"And not only that, but you also close your eyes when you get scared. The last time I was in Chase's car when he made you drive, I saw you close your eyes when that kid kicked his ball into the road."
"Oh, come on, I thought I was going to run right over it."
"Exactly, why was your first instinct to close your eyes and not to hit the brakes?"
"I did hit the brakes, otherwise I would have ran over it."
"If Chase didn't yell at you, you probably would have."
He wasn't wrong. Aside from worms and spiders, one of my biggest fears was driving. Just the idea of being in control of a death machine that could potentially run off the street and cause terrible accidents never appealed to me. But he was right, I did need to work on getting my driver's license because I disliked asking him to drive me to places just as much as he disliked me asking him to. I also was the only one in my friend group who didn't have one.
Chase had asked me to meet him at the coffee shop before we walked to class. We tried doing this at least twice a week. We had World History together on Tuesdays and Chemistry on Fridays first period, so we usually grabbed a drink and walked to class together on those days. That day, however, he had Yanique hooked onto his arm when I arrived. She kept talking to him as I approached them. Any normal person would've stopped talking when someone approached them, but she didn't, and I wasn't surprised. I waved as Chase's eyes met mine.
"Hi, guys," I finally reached them, and he flashed me a white, pearly smile.
"We were just talking about you," he informed me.
"Oh really? What about?"
"Just how you were freaking out last night when the cops showed up," Yanique answered, her pink, pointy nails grabbing my attention, and I suddenly noticed how it looked like she was grasping onto Chase like she was scared that he would slip right out of her arms.
