Chase's POV"It all makes sense now," Nathan snapped his fingers.
I sighed and dropped my face into my palms. Chloe pulled the blanket to her chest and a whimper escaped her lips. "I can explain," she began but Vicky held her hand up to silence her.
"It's okay."
I looked up at her. "What?"
She squeezed her thumb and pointy finger together and ran them across her lips to imitate closing a zipper. "I didn't see anything."
I was ready to accept our fate. I was prepared to see Vicky running out to call Chris and I wouldn't even fight back when he punched me. But to my surprise, it went the complete opposite way.
When Nathan didn't say anything, she elbowed him in the side, and he winced. "Yeah, whatever. I won't say shit."
"Guys, I-I know how confusing this must seem," she stuttered and brought her hand up to her mouth and began nibbling on her nails.
"Nope," Vicky popped the 'P', "this is none of my business, carry on." She spun on her heels and proceeded to the door. Nathan had a smirk plastered on his face as he gave us a once-over before following his friend, closing the door behind them.
"I'm so sorry Chase, I shouldn't have come on to you like that," she spoke with pleading eyes.
I stood to my feet and blew my hair out of my face. "Don't be sorry," I said and meant it. "It was their fault for wandering around the cabin like that anyway."
"Do you think they'll tell him?"
"You heard them," I muttered with a shrug. "If they keep their word, we should be fine."
She sighed and continued to bite her nails.
"Stop doing that," I told her sternly and she frowned but dropped her hand to her lap.
"I can't help it. I don't want to be the reason for your friendship ending with Christian."
"Don't worry about that. I won't let that happen, okay?"
"Okay." Her brows furrowed together and her back fell into the couch with a huff escaping her lips.
"And even if he does happen to find out, I'll do everything I can to save all the relationships that it might affect. I promise you that."
I knew the magnitude that our actions were holding. I was aware of how heavy they were, and that she was mostly worried about the consequences of them. I was carrying the same worries on my shoulders, but I was also prepared to deal with the consequences if or when they were to come.
Chloe's POV
I tried to ignore the way the walls were swaying around me. The way it felt like I was walking on velvet and how light I felt on my feet made me know just how intoxicated I was."Here," Chase handed me a glass of water. I eyeballed how his eyebrows creased when I chugged the whole thing down. Being drunk sure makes you thirsty.
He laughed lightly when I placed the glass onto the countertop.
"What?" My voice came out more high-pitched than I intended it to.
"It's just the fact that this is my second time nursing you back to sobriety in less than two weeks."
I chuckled at his remark. He was right.
