Pyra POV

We started walking away from the wreck, and as we walked I noticed Kai was leaning on me more, and his footfalls were getting heavier and heavier. Then I remember his little drunken/sleepy episode in Umon's workshop.

Pyra: Kai, have you slept at all sknce you fell?

Kai: Of course not, I fell when you guys fell, which was like, five minutes ago.

Pyra: I mean when you fell into this world.

Kai: Oh. Yeah totally! I've gotten plenty of sleep.

He was lying. From my closeness to him I could feel his heartbeat. Normally it was strong and slow, but it sped up. Pair that with his obvious fatigue and the answer was clear.

Pyra: Kai you need to sleep. You're hurting yourself!

Kai: I'm fine. I don't need sleep.

He sounded so sure, but so exhausted all the same.

Pyra: I'm gonna talk to Rex for a bit.

Kai: Alright. Better move fast. Nia looks like she wants your spot.

I glanced over at Nia and sure enough, she was looking at us, and she did seem jealous.

Pyra: Ok.

I left his warmth, shivering as the cold hit me, and jogged to catch up to Rex.

Rex: Hey Pyra.

Pyra: Rex, do you think we can stop for some rest?

Rex: What for? We started walkng not too long ago.

Pyra: Kai looks like he's ready to collapse, he hasn't slept since he fell onto Azurda's back.

Rex's eyes widened.

Azurda: I'm sure the young man tried to dissuade you from convincing him to sleep?

Pyra: Yes, yes he did.

Rex: Okay. *louder* Alright, we're gonna rest here for a few, if you need a nap I suggest you take it.

I walked back to Kai, who was sitting down. Clearly not napping.

Kai: Really? We started walking a little bit ago.

I shrugged and knelt slightly behind him. Then I pulled him down, resting his head in my lap.

Kai: Hey wait! If you're gonna force me to sleep at least let me fix my hair!

I sighed. He sat up and.... slammed a blue orb onto his head? After that his hair fell flat, it was actually long enough that it fell to just below his shoulders, and had bangs.

Kai: There.

He laid back down.

Kai: Comfy.

I blushed. I'm glad that he was comfortable, but him saying it out loud was embarrassing. I watched his bright blue eyes close, then his breathing evened out.

Pyra: He's asleep.

I started running my hands through his hair, it was soft, fluffy even. A small smile appeared on his face as he slept, and even though he's sleeping his smile was still contagious, because I found myself smiling back at him.

Azurda: You care a great deal for him do you not?

I jumped slightly, I didn't hear him fly over.

Pyra: I do. I'm not even sure why... I just... want to make sure I do everything I can to make sure he's okay.

Azurda just nodded.

Pyra: I mean, he's done so much for us already, he defeated Brighid the first time, protected us from the Flamebringer. And so many other things. I just feel like I need to repay him, though if he were awake he'd say that that's ridiculous.

Azurda: Have you considered that you may be in love with him? You've never liked being touched much, but you seem to be completely fine with Kai.

Pyra: I don't know, it's true that I don't mind contact with him, or even enjoy it. But after Addam... I... I don't know if love is something I'm allowed to feel...

I looked down at Kai, he seemed so... peaceful. As if this would never be a problem for him.

Azurda: Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean you aren't allowed to feel.

Pyra: But I felt like that was it, that he was the one, that after it was over we'd settle down, in a nice home, until he eventually passed. Then my memories would be erased, and I would have no recollection of it, so I could move on.

I looked at Kai again.

Pyra: Maybe I'm just scared that he'll get hurt if I love him. Or that he won't love me back.

I ran my fingers through his hair again.

Pyra: Maybe....
