Kai POV

We traveled back to where Gramps was docked, and Rex explained the situation. I had a bad feeling about this
Rex: ...and that about covers it. All right, I’ll see ya later! Should be back in a day or two. Take it easy, Gramps!

Azurda: That does not “about cover it” in the slightest! Why would you take a job you know nothing about? You don’t even know who your employer is!

Rex: This came straight from the Chairman, remember? What more do you need? Anyway, I’m off! You can take a nap while you wait!

Azurda: H-hey! Come back here, will you?! Rex!

Kai: He's going to get himself killed, isn't he?

Gramps seemed alarmed at my voice.

Gramps: Who's there?! Show yourself!

Kai: Relax. I'm not here to hurt anyone. My name is Kai. And some time ago I believe I fell out of the sky. I don't know anything else about who I am. The only things I know about where I am came from Rex's little narration before we arrived.

Gramps: So you were the one I felt, I thought I was imagining things.

Kai: As far as I know, I am not imaginary. Despite my... invisible appearance.

Gramps: And why is that? If you don't mind me asking.

Kai: I fell into this world, quite literally, and I didn't know my own name for a short time, but I still retain no knowledge of who I truly am. One thing I do know though, when I saw Rex climbing out of the Cloud Sea, I felt like I needed to follow him and whatever companions he may obtain along his journey. And intervene if absolutely necessary.

Gramps: Well then, I will keep your presence secret from those who don't know of you till you decide to reveal yourself. Now, you should probably go catch up to Rex, if your stated intentions are true. It was nice meeting you Kai.

Kai: It was nice meeting you too, Azurda.

Gramps: Please, call me Gramps.

Kai: Right then, see ya Gramps!

I took off, though, he wouldn't know it.

Gramps: Take care of Rex!

Kai: I will.

Smol Timeskip

Rex: Wheeling out the Maelstrom for this? Bana sure has deep pockets...

Nia: Gawking at a boat? What are you, twelve? Wait, maybe you are twelve.

Rex: What’s my age got to do with anything? I can tell an awesome feat of engineering when I see one! 

Kai: He's not wrong.

Nia: You don’t close your mouth soon, you’re gonna swallow a fly.

Rex: (muttering) What’s her problem? We’re nearly the same age. (Out loud) Also, you might wanna watch where you stand, otherwise when we cast off… That rope’ll take your leg off.

Nia: Eh?!

Rex: Gotcha.

Nia: Why, you little-!

Rex: Now look whose mouth’s hanging open.

Kai: Awfully smug for such a small victory.

Salvager: Rex, we’re heading out. There’s no one seeing you off, right? You got night watch. Until then, rest up inside.

Rex: Aye aye! Later!

Nia: Hmm...

Kai: Well, no backing down now. Let's go do a thing! I have no clue what's happening!

Then I leapt to the ship as it started to pull out of the dock.

Okay, yeah, not that exciting. But were progressing toward where it gets really interesting. Onward amigos!
