Pyra POV
Despite telling Kai that I would be fine, I was slightly nervous, as Rex had expressed his concerns about how Kai and I interacted, but I hope that this has nothing to do with that.
Pyra: Where are we going?
We seemed to be approaching a graveyard, and a brief flash of irrational fear had me reaching for the necklace that Kai gave me, worried that I was going to get buried or something of the like, before I managed to get a hold of myself, and calm down.
Pyra: Where are we?
Rex: These are my parents' graves.
I was surprised, I had never once asked him about where he came from, and I didn’t expect that he would bring me to visit their graves.
Pyra: What?!
Rex: Sorry. I guess I never properly told you about myself. I...
Pyra: *softly* No, it's fine. I'm sorry I never thought to ask...
Rex: I wanted you to meet them, though.
Pyra: To meet them? How do you mean?
I didn’t get a response, as Rex turned around, kneeling before the graves of his parents.
Rex: *quietly* Hey, Mum... Dad... It's been a while. A ton happened, you know - I became a Driver! And this girl...is Pyra. My new partner. I know you'd love her. We- we're going to Elysium. Pyra and me. I don't know what's coming next, but… You'll be watching over us, right guys?
Pyra: *softly* Rex...
He knelt for a while longer, before placing a hand on either grave, then standing up, seemingly back to normal.
Rex: *upbeat* Right. Let's head back.
Pyra: OK.
We went back to the inn Corinne ran, I immediately proceeded to the kitchen to help out Corinne. Just because I felt that it would be easier if there were two cooks in the kitchen. Though Corinne was having me wash thoroughly before I touched any food, which made sense.
Corinne: I'm so sorry, making you wash up like this.
Pyra: No no, don't worry about it! I don't have to be in a fight to be able to help people. I like it.
Corinne: You're a dear. Rex is very lucky you're around. He's never brought a girl to meet me before!
Pyra: Huh? No no no, it's not like that! I'm just Rex's Blade!
Corinne: Is that so? You do hear of Blades and Drivers getting married a lot in the old stories!
Pyra: Err… Umm… I… I’m with someone else…
Corinne: Hm? If not my dear Rex, then who?
Pyra: Kai… I’m with Kai.
Corinne: Must make for an interesting Driver - Blade relationship.
Pyra: It’s… strange at times, but I think it works for the most part.
We worked on getting the meal ready in silence for a while. Before I spoke again.
Pyra: This is a lovely village. Everyone's so warm and carefree.
Corinne: It's removed from everything, you see. I think if everyone could live like this... The world might be a happier place.
There was a slight pause in her words.
Corinne: You know, between you and me… I think, deep down, Rex still misses his mother a little. In a way, you remind me of her. Just a tad.
Pyra: Of Rex's mother? Really? Actually... He took me to say hello to his parents.
Corinne: Ahh… You know, Rex wasn't born here in Fonsett.
She paused for a moment, before beginning a narration.
Corinne: He must have been two years old when he came ashore here with his poor mother. Maybe it was war, or a dying Titan... But they'd lost their home, sure enough. I gather it was a great struggle to get here. She was so weak… She asked me to look after Rex, and… That was the last thing she said. She seemed so lovely, too… And his father… We found his body about three titanpeds away from here. He came so far... If only he'd made it a little farther. Such a sad business.
That was… wow… I wasn't really sure how to respond.
Pyra: How awful...
Corinne: That boy has suffered enough loss for one life. That's why he became a salvager, you know. To find some way up to Elysium.
Pyra: In that case… Maybe it's not good for me to be by Rex's side after all...
Corinne: Why, are you not fond of him?
Pyra: Oh, I am! But, with me here… he'll suffer even more, lose even more. So maybe... Maybe Rex is better off without me. Rex...and the whole world. They don't need me. That's just how it feels.
Corinne: Now, dear...
Little did I know, Brighid was listening around the corner.
Timeskip
We were getting ready to leave
Rex: OK, time to move out!
Kazuna: See you soon, Rex!
Corinne: You take care now. And keep yourself out of trouble, Azurda!
Azurda: Ah, you know me. I prefer the quiet life.
I went back to Corinne
Pyra: Thank you for everything.
Corinne: Pyra, dear, I don't know what you've been through before… But you should know you're not alone anymore. Rex is a strong boy. You can depend on him, whenever and wherever you need him.
I knew that I had all the support I'd need from Rex and Kai.
Pyra: I know. I'll try.
Rex came over
Rex: Huh? What was all that about?
Pyra: Nothing at all. Right?
Corinne: Nothing for your ears, Rex. You just concentrate on what you're doing. Work hard, and do your best!
Rex: Sure, I will.
Then we turned, and set off for Indol.
Shorter than usual, but here's another chapter! I promise, we'll eventually make it to the end. I won't quit. Might take a year or two though
