Kai POV

We had entered Genbu, and we were now walking through the Titan to reach Tantal. Pyra, rather predictably, was snuggled into my side, though a little closer than normal, due to Genbu being much, much colder than anywhere else we had been. Nia looked murderous and was glaring at Pyra and I.

Pyra: H-hey, Nia... Do you, um, mind...?

She was uncomfortable with the staring, so I pulled her a little closer.

Nia: *grumpy* Yes I mind, because now all the warmth is over there!

Nia gestured at how Pyra was nestled against me.

Dromarch: M-my lady… If you desire warmth, why not take some from me? Miss Pyra seems to be in some distress...

Nia: No way. Your fur is all stiff and spiky with the cold, it'd be murder on my sensitive skin.

Rex’s eyes clouded over for a minute, no doubt planning on how he was going to use this information to his advantage later, probably for some childish prank.

Dromarch: But, my lady...

Nia switched up the topic, pointedly ignoring Dromarch.

Nia: Hey, is it just me, or are the Ether lines really dim?

I looked at our surroundings, and sure enough, the thin lines of green Ether glowed rather dimly compared to the other Titans we’ve seen.

Poppi: What is the meaning of "ether lines"?

Nia: Y'know, those things, the glowing threads that run inside a Titan.

Dromarch: That is the glow of pure ether coursing through the Titan's body. You can compare it to the bloodstream of a human.

Zeke: You've got good eyes. Genbu has pretty bad circulation, compared to other Titans. They say it's why we have a cold climate and awful crops.

Rex: So it's...cold-blooded?

Zeke: Heh, call it what you like.

Kai: Fascinating… I wonder why the circulation is so bad… There must be a MASSIVE diversion of power somewhere… but where would it go?

We kept walking, and eventually a grand city’s walls came into view.

Mòrag: Oh, my- This is the very picture of the ancient civilizations I've read about!

Zeke: It's a pretty classic look. You know the old land of Torna? They had a proud and noble civilization, rivaled only by Judicium at the time. But whereas Judicium were the masters of biological arts… Tornans knew all there was to know about engineering. The proud blood of Torna runs in the veins of us Tantalese.

Dromarch: As there are people to pass it on to, civilization will endure. Knowledge is inherited, much like life itself.

Nia: Nice quote! You should write that down.

Kai: It was a good quote… Too bad Dromarch doesn’t have hands…

Nevertheless, Dromarch looked quite pleased with himself.

Dromarch: Thank you.

Zeke spoke up again, a little more solemn.

Zeke: It's not that simple, though.

Rex: Huh?

Zeke: You'll see…

Kai: *quietly* Pyra… I have a bad feeling about this…

She didn’t respond, but nestled closer for comfort. I sighed as we entered the city.

The first thing we saw was a very busy market. But something was off. People kept looking to and fro before handing anyone money, and all of the sellers seemed shady, as if they were up to something.
