Chapter 28:The end of the world as you know it

Skye was sitting in a small lab with some sort of wires attached to her skin. A young woman was walking around the lab grabbing things, checking monitors and ordering around to other lab rats there. She came towards Skye with a tablet in her hand.

"No signs of brainwashing. Your brain waves seem to be normal for an Inhuman" she spoke with a british accent.

"I could have told you that myself" Skye told her. "Can you get me out of this wires?"

"Oh, yes, that. I will need you to keep them on you for a little while longer so I can run some other tests and then you're free to go" the lady explained.

"Look. I don't like this. What ever test you need to run, you better do it fast" Skye warned her.

"Yes. I can see that. Your vitals are spiking. Just calm down for a couple more minutes" the scientist asked her. Skye just looked at her and waited to be let go. "All seems okay. You are good to go"

"Finally. What were you checking by the way?" Skye asked once she hopped of the chair she was strapped to for testing.

"Oh, just any other internal damages. You have been heavily sedated with an allien stun gun Ward recovered for us on your mission in Greece. We know it isn't harmful for humans as May has been awake for some time now without any symptoms, but we had to check how it works with Inhuman genes since...well, you know...you're part allien" Simmons explained.

"Is May okay?" was the next Skye asked.

"Oh, yeah. She is fine. She is recovering from the sedatives and the serum we injected her with"

"Serum?"

"Yes. May has been brainwashed. Her scans showed she was under the impact of the machine for quite a while now."

"What are you talking about?"

"Oh, you don't know. Well, you see May was a SHIELD agent before it fell, one of the best actually. She went with Ward and Fitz undercover at HYDRA, but we only got word from Ward. We never knew what happened to her, until Ward notified us both of them were complitely different and leaders of HYDRA"

"Impossible. I knew her for..."

"2 years. Yes. That's how long she has been there and under the effects of a brainwashing machine" Simmons cut in.

"But...she was my mentor. Will she remember me and the rest?"

"She should be able to remember it, but she will feel as if it was all a dream"

"And Ward? Was he brainwashed?"

"No. You know, you shouldn't be so hard on him."

"And why not? He lied to me. We have been together for a year. I told him I loved him. We moved in together. He knew I hate lies and yet he still lied to me"

"But he remained faithful to you. You didn't loose him. He is still here, after everything that has happened. He loves you"

"Who?" was all Skye asked after she saw Jemma's face expresion as she was talking.

"Fitz. Or as you know him - the Doctor. He was my best friend, and I love him. It hurt when he screamed at me he doesn't want to see me after not speaking to me for weeks and a breakup text"

"Oh. So you think he was also brainwashed?" Simmons nodded. "I am sorry..ahm?"

"Jemma. My name is Jemma Simmons" she said politely to the girl she just met.

"I'm sorry Jemma. My name is Skye"

"I know. I was on the Bus when Ward and Coulson went to pick you up 3 years ago. Ward keeps talking about you" Skye smilled when Simmons told her that.
