A few weeks passed, and I realized it was already Halloween. I usually didn't do anything special since trick-or-treating was over and I didn't have any friends to waste time with. But, hopefully things would change this year.
Emma invited me to her Annual Adams' Halloween Fest (Adams being her last name, but ironically shes the only one in her family that is involved). It was going to be on the evening on Halloween. We are all meeting at her place.
Luckily, Halloween landed on a Friday this year, which is obviously the best day to have it. After a long day of schoolwork and annoying people, I get to spend some time with my friends. The school day flew by quickly, with only brief memories of adjectives and math formulas swimming in my head. Calvin, Nick, and a few others were going. Calvin was telling me that I would finally be able to meet one of his best friends. But I forgot his name. It starts with a "C"...Connor? Clyde? Cameron? Chris? Carlo? I don't remember...but I guess I'm looking forward to it. I don't know many of his true friends, besides Nick. I've only seen him hang out with Nick, and a bunch of other people that he really doesn't want to talk to. Comes with being popular I suppose.
Either way, skip forward until I got to Emma's house. She told me to get there early so I could help her hang up decorations and make food and things like that. Nick was there when I got there, hanging up a large banner that said "Welcome Halloweenies!" in bold lettering. Emma was no where to be seen.
"Hey Ava." Nick said.
"Hey."
"Looking for Emma? I believe she's in the kitchen. She said she would need your help with-"
"AVA?! IS THAT YOU?! COME HELP ME!"
I ran towards her voice, expecting her to ask me for some favor. I eventually found the kitchen, and I saw heavy, black smoke billowing from the oven.
"AVA HELP ME, THE SMOKE WONT STOP!"
"Calm down! What the hell did you do?!" I exclaimed, while attempting to fan away the thick smoke from my face.
I didn't really know what to do, though. I had a feeling that it would be a bad idea to put water on it. You're not suppose to water out electrical fires, right? Is this considered an electrical fire?
Is the oven still on?!
I turned a bunch of knobs and eventually the red light on the stove went black, by that time the smoke became less thick and there were just traces of black mist.
Nick opened the door.
"Are you guys oka-"
The smoke alarm started beeping as soon as the door opened. Its horrifying sound could make someone deaf. We all plugged our ears, and began fanning away the smoke going into the monitor with dish towels. Nick opened up the windows, hoping that no one would be suspicious about why there was a substantial amount of smoke coming from this area.
After a while of swatting the smoke and a lot of heavy breathing, I was able to see across the room without a black cloud obstructing my view.
Something bad always seems to happen around these two..

A few hours later, people started arriving at the party.
Calvin was the first to show, just a few minutes early.
"As long as no one saw me come here this early, its kinda embarrassing. My mom is always bitching about how its better to be early than late."
I laughed, feeling relieved that my mom wasnt the only one that said things like that.
