It was a Sunday afternoon. I was lounging on my couch, with a coffee cup in hand. I was browsing the Internet, which one does when there is nothing better to do. But then, something interrupted my mindless scrolling on Instagram.
A text.
Calvin: I'm outside your house, open the door.
I cocked my eyebrow at the text, and awkwardly walked towards my door. I opened it, to see Calvin standing on my steps.
"Sups?"
"Shouldn't you have...oh, I don't know. TEXTED ME BEFORE YOU DECIDED TO SHOW UP ON MY DOORSTEP?!"
Calvin then had an uneasy look on his face.
"Yeah...sorry about that..."
"It's fine. I just don't want you to come over and something would be going on or anything like that."
"I understand."
"Why are you here anyways? Not like I don't want you to be here or anything."
"I don't know. I'm bored."
He walked into my house, and laid down on my couch.
"Can you make me some tea?"
I rolled my eyes, and went into the kitchen.
"Thank you." I heard him say from the other room.
I rolled my eyes again, and went into my cupboard.
"What kind of tea you want?"
"Do you have green?"
"Yep."
"I'll have that then."
I grabbed the box of green tea and made Calvin a cup. I went back into the living room and handed him the warm cup (and a bit wet because I spilled some).
After a while of awkward silence, he finally spoke up.
"So...eh," he said, awkwardly.
"What?"
"This is just an awkward subject to talk about."
"Why? What do you need to talk about? It's not about sex, is it? Good God, Calvin. I am not the person to talk to about that sort of th-"
"NO! I DON'T NEED TO TALK ABOUT THAT AROUND YOU."
"Thank goodness."
I got that bad feeling in the pit of my stomach again. The same feeling I had right before Calvin kissed me. But it's not a good feeling, not at all. It feels like leaches are slowly eating away at my insides, but it doesn't hurt (as I imagine it would if you were in that situation).
Calvin got closer, and faced me.
"Ava...I like you." he said, while looking down.
"I like you too, kiddo. You're one of my closet friends, I would hope that you like me."
He took another deep breath.
"That's not what I mean."
"Then what do you mean?" I asked.
"I mean 'I would like to cuddle and watch Netflix with you and kiss a lot' kind of like you."
I blinked again, and took a deep breath out.
"It's fine if you don't like me back. Just stop acting like you found out that you won $1,000,000 or something." he sighed.
"No, that's not why I'm acting like this. I'm just shocked that someone like you could possibly like someone like me." I managed to say.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"You're way too good for me." I chuckled.
"Am not. Does that mean you like me back?"
"How much more obvious do I need to be, ya dimwit?" I asked, trying to be lighthearted.
"Well you weren't exactly being direct, you know." He laughed, and pulled me into a hug.
We hugged for quite a while, but my mom came back from work and interrupted our moment.
"Hey guy-" she paused.
"Am I interrupting something here?" she asked, with an amused tone on her voice.
I quickly pulled away from the hug.
"Nope! Nothing to see here!" I said, punching Calvin in the arm.
"Yep, just some friends hanging out!"
We sat there smiling like people in toothpaste commercials, trying to look innocent.
My mom looked at us, as if she knew what we were really doing.
"I knew you guys would end up dating..." she said, and walked into another room.
We both slugged our shoulders down, and sighed. Then, we looked at each other again. I had a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach, but it wasn't the same as before. It was a lot happier. Like oxytocin and dopamine were being released. That's science, apparently. Before I knew it, Calvin and I were just casually kissing on my couch while my mother was in the other room.
After a while of sucking face, Calvin had to leave.
"See you at school...babe."
I laughed.
"Okay..." I said, thinking about a pet name to call him.
"Sugar?"
Calvin looked at me with disgust.
"No."
"Honey?"
"Nope."
"Cutie?"
"No..."
"Snookums?"
"HELL NO!"
I laughed and shooed him out the door.
He stumbled out the door, and waved bye.
I waved back, and went into my room.
Was this day even real? I can't believe that actually happened. I am dating Calvin, the cutest guy in school. Also the smartest, and awesomest guy at school. Wait until I tell Emma...
Me: Guess what, girly?
A minute passed until my phone beeped.
Emma: Hmm?
Me: Calv and I are dating
Emma: WHAT?!?!?!?! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN
Me: EMMA CHILL! We just started dating
Emma: Ok good I don't wanna kill either of you for withholding information
I laughed at her response.
Me: Don't beat my boy's ass, not yet anyways. I'm the one who should be doing that anyways ;)))
Emma: AVA! IM TELLING HIM U SAID THAT
Me: DONT YOU DARE
Emma: YOU KNOW HE'LL BE TURNED ON BY IT
Me: Oh my god Emma, shut the hell up xD
Emma: You know you love me :*
Me: Yeah I do. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?
Emma: Ok, love you bae
Me: Love you too, night
Emma: Night
I laid back in my bed, staring at my ceiling.
This doesn't feel real.
