The three then head in the direction to Shinobu and the Upper-Rank demon.

- Shinobu's Monologue -
"I once believed that the road of happiness continued forever and ever into the distance. When it was destroyed, I noticed for the first time...that happiness lies atop a thin sheet of glass. And just as we were saved...there are those whose happiness hasn't yet been destroyed. So I wanted to get stronger...and protect them. The day Himejima saved us, my sister said, 'Let's defeat as many demons as possible. Together. We won't let anyone else...experience what we went through. Even if we're weak...and can't cut off demons' heads... If we defeat one demon, we can have dozens of people. And if we defeat an Upper-Rank Kizuki, we can save hundreds.'"

- With Shinobu's Battle -
Shinobu begins to fall back to the floor. "It isn't about whether we can win or cannot. There are things we have to do," Shinobu thought. She then remembered the question Tanjiro had asked her.

"Are you angry?"

Shinobu thought, "Yes, I'm angry, Tanjiro. I've always been angry. My parents were killed. My older sister was killed. And all my Tsuguko except Kanao were killed. If demons hadn't murdered those girls' families... they'd be living happily with them right now. It really makes me furious!" Doma begins to recover from the poison injected into him with Shinobu adding, "I can't believe this! Why doesn't poison work on this guy? Bastard!" Doma let out a few whips and caught Shinobu from falling to the ground.

- With Tanjiro and the others -
The three got closer with Tanjiro feeling another new presence. He said, "Tsuyuri-san is near Shinobu-san... but..." Kyojuro asked, "But?" Tanjiro continued, "Shinobu-san is having a hard time with that Upper-Rank demon. We might not make it in time if I keep running! We need to pick up the pace, and now!" Giyu said, "Then do what you always did before. Do that flying thing and get to her faster." Tanjiro started to hate himself for not thinking about that earlier. He then expands his aura and flies to Shinobu's location.

- Back with Shinobu's battle -
Doma pulled Shinobu up to him and hugged her. He started crying and yelled, "So admirable!! You've tried so hard! I'm impressed!! Such a weak girl doing so much! You don't have your older sister's talent, but you've done well as a Demon Hunter! It's a miracle you aren't dead yet! It's all pointless, you see. But you're stupid enough to keep trying! This is both the folly and wonder of humanity! You are certainly worth eating! Let us live together for eternity! Any last words? I'm listening." Shinobu simply said, "Go to hell!" He then begins to absorb her body.

- Just outside -
Kanao was about to open a door but heard something behind her. She looked behind and saw that Tanjiro was flying his fastest to get to where she was. Tanjiro, however, didn't stop but yelled, "Watch out, Tsuyuri-san!" Kanao hopped out of the way and watches as Tanjiro bashed into the door and skidded to a stop. Tanjiro looked up and saw that Shinobu was getting hugged by the Upper-Rank demon he felt earlier. He yells, "Shinobu-san!" Kanao entered the room and also saw what was going on. She yells, "Master!" Shinobu was about halfway into Doma's body with two being absolutely shocked. Shinobu made a signal to the two and let go of her sword, dropping right to the ground. Kanao wasted no time and yells while jumping up to Doma. Tanjiro also followed behind and the two used,

"Flower Breathing, Fourth Form: Crimson Hanagoromo!"

"Flame Breathing, First Form: Unknowing Fire!"

Doma, who was fast enough to dodge, caught the attention of the two on the ground. He covered Shinobu's body while saying, "Whoa... That's dangerous you two! Don't try to cut me when I'm right in the middle of absorbing someone." Kanao begins to breathe heavily while Tanjiro's mind was completely empty. Shinobu's body was now fully absorbed with Doma saying, "Hm? You don't accept my challenge? Is that because this girl signalled to you two with her hands? Did she tell you about my powers or something? It just took a moment. Impressive. She tries hard despite the futility." Tanjiro had no thoughts in his mind. He just let the person he cared about, die. The person who looked after him, along with Zenitsu and Inosuke, were injured. Doma then grabbed Shinobu's purple hairpin and said, "Anyway, tonight is a good night. Such fine feasts show up one after the other." Tanjiro stayed frozen in place but his mind begins to flow with thoughts and memories with Shinobu. Tanjiro saw Shinobu as a mother figure due to how she always cared for him. He thought, "If I hadn't messed around with that demon from before, Shinobu might be alive right now!" Kanao also thought, "Somehow I feel the people I care for and those important to me...will still be alive tomorrow. But that's just my hope...and there's no way I can promise that with any certainty. Why do people believe such things?"

- With Zenitsu -
Zenitsu stood a few metres behind a door and said, "You're there, right? Come on out. I know you're there." The door opened with a familiar voice saying, "That is no way to speak... to your senior." A hand appeared just passed the door with the voice saying, "You look a little better than when I last saw you but... as usual, you're still shabby. It's been a while, Zenitsu." The voice was revealed to be Kaigaku. Zenitsu said, "Kaigaku... Now that you've become a demon... I no longer think of you as my senior."

- A Little Secret -
Kyojuro and Giyu would often chat when they would have the time. Giyu sometimes spaces off but Kyojuro still visits him despite that.
