"Head to bed, training starts tomorrow."
-Time skip-
-Tanjiro's POV-
I was writing the training I did in a journal while Nezuko still slept. I get up and get ready to train. I open the door to Nezuko's room but find she still sleeping. Mr. Urokodaki blew out the light and told me, "Let's go." I close the door and follow him out.Mr. Urokodaki told me about the Demon Slayer Corps and how it has around several hundred members. "It's an organization unrecognized by the government. Yet it has existed since ancient times, and we continue to hunt demons today. But as for who's leading the Demon Slayer Corps, that remains a mystery. Demons. Staple food, humans! They kill humans and feed on them. No one knows when and where they first appeared. Their physical prowess is remarkable, somewhat like yours Tanjiro. Their wounds heal in the blink of an eye. The flesh is restored after being hacked off, and limbs can be newly regenerated. Some demons can shape-shift. Others have otherworldly powers. They can only be killed by sunlight or by decapitation with a special sword. The Demon Slayers battle the demons with their mortal bodies. Since they're human, their wounds are slow to heal, and, once lost, their limbs don't grow back! Even so, they battle the demons... to protect other humans." That is what he told me
I begin running down the mountain thinking about what he told me, "I am a trainer. I train literally swordsmen. There are many trainers, and each of them trains their pupils with their own regimen at their location. To join the Demon Slayer Corps, at Mount Fujikasane. I will decide whether or not you're eligible for Final Selection." I jump over a rope that could potentially pose a threat. "Starting today, I'm going to keep a journal for Nezuko. I'm descending the mountain again today. I'm going to train my hardest to gain more power. Who knows how strong the demons are at Final Selection." I dodge a repeated set of traps, "After repeatedly descending the mountain, day after day, I'm starting to learn how to dodge and get better reflexes. It's because I'm much stronger than before, and because I'm even more adept at detecting scents than before. The slight tingles I feel where I'm about to get hit got better, so I can dodge better than before. The traps get more difficult with each descent, but it'll help me more. It's as if he's trying to kill me." I write in my journal about the training I did that day.
"I made my descent today, sword in hand, but the sword hampered my movement." I was about to get pulled up by the rope, but I sliced the rope before my leg was pulled. During the descent, I got hit by some traps.
"I swung the sword today. Well, not just today. I've been swinging the sword every single day. After descending the mountain, I swing my sword until my arms feel like they are on fire."
"2,991! 2,992! 2,993! 2,994! 2,995! 2,996! 2,997! 2,998! 2,999! 3,000!" I screamed. Mr. Urokodaki yelled, "1,000 more!" I gasp at the instruction.
As I write about another successful training day, I nearly fell asleep"Swords break easily." Mr. Urokodaki said. "That's what he told me first. Though it's strong vertically, it's weak horizontally, so... you need to apply force straight along the blade. The blade's direction and the direction in which you apply the force must be the same. And he added, 'if you ever damage the blade, in other words, break it, I'll snap your bones, as well,' in a threatening voice."
As I almost fall asleep, I wake up to drool. "Nezuko, I'll keep working hard, okay?" I told myself.
-Time Skip to the morning-
-Tanjiro's POV-
I hold my sword in front of me waiting for Mr. Urokodaki to trip me. "Today, I did nothing but fall." Mr. Urokodaki flipped me, but I did a backflip onto my feet. "Training to break my fall and get up quickly from any position. I wield my sword, and I charge at Mr. Urokodaki, really trying to kill him. In contrast, Mr. Urokodaki is bare-handed and unarmed." I had an internal monologue. I nearly sliced him one time. "I'm almost as strong as him, almost every time I charge him, he flings me away to roll on the ground every time." I monologued again. "I'm home, Nezuko," I say, but to find that she's still sleeping.
"Today, I learned breathing techniques and some forms." I wrote inside the journal.
"Total Concentration Breathing?" I ask Mr. Urokodaki. "That's right. And I'm going to teach you all ten of the Water Breathing forms." He answered "Remember to take a long breath so the oxygen flows into every cell in your body. This will enhance your body's natural healing power, and both stabilize and energize your spirit. Relax your upper body... while bracing your lower half. Alright, breathe!" He instructs. I take a sharp breath but was met by a slap to the stomach for getting it wrong. "Wrong!" He said. "Next! Forms!" He added. "Right! Like this?" "Wrong!" "Like this?" "Wrong!" "This?" "Wrong!" "This?" "Wrong!" He slaps my stomach.
"I get yelled for not bracing my stomach, and get clobbered to a pulp. Next, he told me to become one with the water." "Get in there!" He kicked me down. As I'm falling I scream, "Nezuko!" I stand under the waterfall, it put so much pressure on my neck and back, but I got used to it.
"And now it's been six months since you were last awake, Nezuko. Mr. Urokodaki summoned the doctor right away and had him examine you, but he found nothing wrong. But it's not normal for you to stay asleep like this. I was scared. I worry that one morning, I'll wake up and find you dead. Not a day goes by that I don't worry."
I descend the mountain again what my sword in hand. "Each descent gets more and more dangerous, and since I trained for so long, I can probably be able to breathe longer than anyone could." As some traps made their way toward me I swipe my sword at blinding speeds and parry the knives thrown at me. A spike trap was sent toward me, but I sliced it in half after it got close.
"I have nothing more to teach you." He told me. A year after I arrived at Mount Sagiri, he told me that all of a sudden..." "The rest is up to you! Whether or not you can prove yourself worthy for Final Selection. Come with me!" He said. I followed him towards a clearing in the woods. "I will allow you to enter the Final Selection." "Is a boulder... something you slice? Something you can slice with a sword? I don't think I can do it. My sword will snap!" Mr. Urokodaki turned around and started walking away. "Mr. Urokodaki, please wait! Mr. Urokodaki!" I yelled, but it seemed like he was too far to listen.
"After that, Mr. Urokodaki never taught me anything again," I spoke to myself.
I got into an offensive position and threw my sword toward the boulder.Chapter 6: End.
-A little secret-
One night, Tanjiro asked about what his tail was for and why his siblings didn't have it. He was told he was a special child but he didn't believe it.(A/N: Every Italics inside this chapter and inside this "Mark" indicates it's a monologue, or a sentence written down inside his journal.)
