Sandy, Kendall and I had art together. It was fifth period, the period right after lunch. Kendall wasn't much of an art person; she liked public speaking and drama, unlike me and Sandy, who preferred art and engineering. But she chose art too because she knew Sandy and I were choosing it, and we wanted at least one period with the three of us together.
We were designing our own cartoon characters that day. We were asked to get out creative juices flowing, because we got to build our own character and give it dimension. It started off with a basic idea and sketch.
I was designing multiple characters. Those characters were spitting images of reality. The three main characters were based off of me, Kendall and Sandy, and then there were the antagonists - Rick and Rand. I sketched cartoons of us five, with the same features and appearances, but in a caricature kind of way, so all the features were drawn dramatically. I made sure to give Kendall the greenest eyes ever - she did have the greenest eyes out of all green eyes I've seen.
"So, how'd it go, Misty?" asked Sandy, sharpening her pencil. "Your tutor session."
"You don't wanna know," I answered. I took a copic marker and wrote "Ravaging Rando" beneath Rand's character. I decided that that would be her character's name because it described her precisely. I also gave Rick the name "Sick Rick."
"Why not?" Sandy asked.
"I do want to know actually," said Kendall. "Was your buddy a mouth breather? Did you get eaten alive?"
"Even worse," I said. "Plus, I'm alive or I wouldn't be here."
"Maybe you're a ghost." Kendall flicked me in the head.
"Ow!" I yelped.
"OK, you're not," said Kendall. "Good. So what happened?"
"You'll never guess who I ended up with."
"Was it Rand? She's a peabrain. She's probably failing all her classes."
"Close," I said.
"Spill! Was it Rick?"
"Ding ding ding."
"Oh, gross! No way! I can't imagine," said Kendall. "That's just messed up on so many levels."
"You're not helping," I said.
"Are you serious Misty?" said Sandy.
"Dead serious."
"And you're supposed to help him pass," said Kendall. "That's funny."
"Not to mention I'm still his egg drop project partner." I heaved a sigh.
"At least you survived," said Kendall. "Think about it, Misty. It could have been worse."
"Worse than this? How, exactly?" I said.
"He could have slugged you," said Kendall.
"He probably will if I don't meet up with him at his house after school."
"Today?" asked Sandy.
"Yeah. Today. Unfortunately."
"Right after school?" Sandy asked, her eyes probing mine.
"Yeah. He's making me so we can do the project together. He thinks he's better than everyone."
"What?" said Kendall. "But we have plans."
"I know, I'm sorry. Look, I can't get out of this."
"Yes you can. Just don't go," said Kendall. "We were supposed to study for final exams together after school. At the cafe. You're coming."
"He'll pound me then."
"Rick is such a...bozo," muttered Kendall.
"I'll meet up with you guys after that though," I assured.
"You better."
I was really annoyed about having to go to Rick's, so I focused on my drawing the rest of the period. Better than thinking about Rick. In fact, everything was better than thinking about that bonehead.
other things to call Rick other than bonehead?? comment away below 😜
