RICK'S POV
When Misty hit me with her stuffed rabbit or whatever that big fluffy thing was, I can say I was shocked, like I'd just been struck by lightning. Not because I didn't think I deserved it, but because I'd done something to make Misty snap at me like that. It hurt my insides more than it hurt me physically. A stuffed piece of crap like that wouldn't do much other than hurt me emotionally. Shame on me for deserving that. But eh.
That morning, after telling Misty that I'd overheard Rand and Zach talking about ruining our date at the Winter Wonderland, and assuring her that I'd never hurt her on purpose, I went to second period, Math. I couldn't help but think, what a traitor Zach was. What a lame-ass friend. I didn't understand why he would do that. It was all so stupid and pathetic. I was planning to confront Rand and Zach about it during lunch, when I would see them.
Nothing like that to start off my day.
As if math class itself wasn't already hell, those desks, on top of everything, just annoyed me. They looked like they'd been harassed by a group of gum-chewing savages.
Since I normally zoned out during math class, I decided to record the session on my 64GB Voice Recorder Watch. That's when I realized something. I had a hella long recording from the day before yesterday. I didn't remember recording anything that long. I had accidentally been recording all the sounds for ten whole hours. It was from 1:41 P.M. to 11:41 P.M. I sure do a lot of things I'm unaware of, and I'm such an idiot. And a sucka.
Whatever, who am I even kidding.
I had to wait until brunch time to scroll through the recording. I finally found the eighth hour of it. There it was: all the evidence of Rand and Zach talking about the shipsinker plan and breaking me and Misty up.
I grinned to myself. I could be the new Einstein with this proof.
I was smirking as I walked up to Misty at her locker.
She gave me a look. "Yeah?" she asked.
I played the voice recording on my watch. The recording of Rand and Zach's conversation. She listened to it, and her expression, I can't really describe. But when it was over, she was incredulous.
"Holy banana smokes," she said. "I can't believe it."
"I can," I said. "A couple of hard-core bitches."
"But something still bothers me," said Misty, staring at the floor. "I went to Winter Wonderland. I saw you kiss Rand. I need an explanation."
I stiffened. Kissing Rand - now that actually burned me, hard. The heat spiked through me. "We were, um, playing spin the bottle, and it stopped towards her. I'm sorry, I'm such an idiot. I shouldn't have. I'm so sorry."
I could see it in her eyes. Understanding. "OK," she nodded. "Fine. But yes. You're an idiot." She gave me a teasing smile.
I gave her hand a squeeze. "I didn't know you were there."
"Yeah, you stopped noticing me after the supposed break-up," she said with a small chuckle.
"Did not. I always notice you."
She smiled. "You're sweet."
"Damn, I know," I said amusingly. "But I know sweet boyfriends don't make their girls cry."
"It wasn't your fault." She grabbed my arms. "I want to work everything out, make things the way they used to be."
Hope bloomed in my heart. "We will," I assured her. "We will. Hey. Lunch time, room B104. We find the shipsinkers and confront them and take them down."
