Dad was always the kind of person who needed time to decide things. Such as my punishment. He was a B-blood type, so he was indecisive. Even on tiny things. Like what tie he would wear. Which is why he made a weekly chart.

I, on the other hand, never had trouble deciding anything in life, as long as it wasn't too big of a decision. I would always find it easy to choose between chocolate or vanilla, a dog or a cat (I was scared of cats so that was a no-brainer for me), or even two elective classes. Dad wouldn't. I honestly never even ever had trouble deciding answers during those "Would You Rather..." games.

That night he came into my room, after I'd been in there for a couple hours reading Divergent. The book sucked me in, so it was hard for me to snap out of the dystopian world, but I forced myself to. Dad had finally decided on my punishment.

"House arrest during winter break," he said to me. "That means not going outside. You're grounded for two weeks. No leaving the house, no having friends over."

I nodded. "Fine."

"Yeah."

"But...Rick...I really, really like him," I said.

"I could have made the punishment much worse," said dad, "so don't push your luck."

"I'm not trying to. I'm just wondering if after Winter break I could still see him."

"I'll think about that."

Dang. Now that was frustrating.

That could have been a no, but coming from dad I could never be sure. He made every choice he was given so hard for himself.

Dad sighed. "Misty, I just want you to be honest with me from now on. You went out on a date and lied to me about it."

"I know...but it's the first time I lied to you ever. I won't anymore. I cross my heart."

"That's good to hear," said dad.

"Anyway dad, I'm starving. You were so mad you forgot to give me dinner."

"I'm so sorry...There's some leftovers if you want? It was potato casserole night. You missed out on your favorite dinner dish, as a punishment."

I laughed. "That's not too bad."

"Yeah. Now get up, bud. Go eat."

"This late? Dad, I can't digest sleeping."

"I'm sorry about that."

"No, I'm the one who's sorry."

"It's OK. So, I'll leave you to your book then."

Once dad left I picked up my phone and texted Rick.

Me: Hey Rick. Dad found out about the whole thing. Im grounded - cant leave the house for winter break

Rick: Oh bummer. Sorry 'bout that.

Me: :'(

Rick: don't worry misty i can still leave MY house

Me: So?

Rick: so stay put ;)

Me: OK...

I did stay put. I was reading Divergent the next day to kill time. I spent my time in boredom with no place to go other than my house. I tried playing some xbox with Max but I wasn't much of a fan, and anyway Mikey came and demanded I give him the control because he wanted to play. I doodled in my sketchbook and looked through my telescope. I also watched Netflix. I called my friends. I helped decorate the house with Christmas lights and I helped set up the Christmas tree and hang up stockings.
