MISTY
When Rick came, I felt my heart sink. I was hoping he forgot about meeting up.
He made a sexy pose. He leaned his head on his hand with his elbow against the lockers and stared at me grinning, running his hand across his hair. Oh, brother, please.
"What took you so long?" I asked. "It's been, like, ten minutes."
"Doesn't matter. Let's walk to my house."
"Is it far?"
"No."
Sandy and Kendall exchanged looks from the other side of the hallway. I think they were nervous for me. But I was definitely more nervous than them.
I gulped. "Is Rand fine with this?"
"Why wouldn't she be?"
I shrugged. "So, what time should I leave your house?"
"Like, 5:20."
"OK. And...it's...just for the project, right?"
"We'll see." He smirked.
I felt a chill run down my spine. We'll see? What was that supposed to mean?
OK, I guess the nightmare begins.
Once we walked out of school, I saw Zach outside busy unlocking his bike from the bike rack. "Hey Rick, did you get a new girlfriend?" The sunshine invading his skin made the freckles on his face more visible.
"You wish," said Rick.
"Hey onion girl," Zach called to me.
I gritted my teeth in anger. I hated being called that.
"Where you going?" asked Zach.
"To my place. For the project," Rick answered for me.
"Lovebirds."
Boy, was Zach annoying.
We kept walking and Rick turned to me. "So I'm going to need you to help me pass physics."
"I know," I said. "And I will. But you need to work with me."
"You want me to work with you? That's ridiculous. Just let me copy off your exam, and we'll be square."
Oh no. "I can't. That's cheating."
He stared me dead in the eye and poked me hard in the chest. "I really need to pass, Misty. I don't have a choice and neither do you."
I backed off from him. "I'll guide you through everything. If we get caught cheating, both of us are dead."
"We won't get caught."
"How do you know for sure?" I asked as we crossed the street at the Main Street intersection.
"Because nothing I say ever goes wrong, that's why."
"Rick, it's not going to happen."
"We'll see about that."
We arrived at his house in less than five minutes. I never knew he lived so close.
"We're here," he said.
His house was huge and luxurious. It was lined with large glass windows and doors, and had a rooftop patio. As if it were not big enough on the outside, it looked even bigger on the inside. The moment I stepped in, I was in awe. It was like a mansion, so big I could have gotten lost.
"You live here?" I said.
He dropped his backpack on the floor. "As a matter of fact I do. Cool, huh?"
