RICK
Misty and I ignored each other all morning the next day until the five minute time period between our first two classes. We ignored each other before school and during class. She didn't even look at me. Or flirt. I missed her flirting. And her cute glances at me.
She came up to me after class. We were talking about stuff, me confronting what she did and her denying, when Rand just showed up between our conversations out of nowhere. Rand's comments were so out of the blue I was starting to think she needed a serious brain implant at the doctor. Or clearly she was trying to get back at Misty by saying things that weren't true in front of her. That old prepubescent bitch. Just won't call it quits already.
Rand came and said I kissed her last night, which was totally untrue. I can swear Misty looked mad at that. I was angrier, but I just didn't show it. Everything was all so fucked up either way. And it was all Axel's fault. Well, sort of. I didn't know who else to pin it on, so why not just pin it all on Axel. The hallways were filled with juicy gossip and rumors about me and Misty and Axel anyway. I wanted to just punch everyone in the face for spreading all that dumb news. Especially Kendall! Curse her. And trust me, you wouldn't want to get punched by me, not to brag about my strong arms or anything.
At lunch Misty found me again in the hallway leading to the cafeteria outside.
"Rick...we need to talk," said Misty. "I think there's been a serious misunderstanding for sure."
I didn't want to hear it. I just crossed my arms and leaned against the wall.
"Rick, you have to give me a chance. I don't like Axel. I swear."
"And you guys hugged each other? Very believable," I replied, sarcasm seeping into my voice.
"It's not like that," said Misty. "And come on, we didn't even kiss. And what about you?" She pointed a finger at me. "I waited for you for ages to show up. Turns out you were with Rand. You even texted her."
"What the hell? No I didn't, Misty."
"Yes, you did," she answered firmly. "She even showed me. I-I'm gonna go eat now. And don't even try to talk to me ever again after this. You blew it." She wiped her eyes and left, probably so I wouldn't see her crying.
I felt so bad.
Rand showed her? Showed her what, exactly?
I had an inkling creeping up my spine that something wasn't right.
I found her walking off campus at tutorial, her back facing me, but I knew it was her. I sprinted straight over to her. I wanted to start over with her and figure everything out.
"Misty!" I called. "Misty, wait up."
She kept walking and ignoring me. She speedwalked.
I reached to touch her shoulder to get her attention.
"Don't touch me," she said, shrugging away from me quickly.
I walked in front of her and faced her.
"Stay away, Rick."
"I'm really sorry," I apologized.
She didn't seem to buy it. "I know you are because you should be. Now fuck off. Please." She ran away.
I should have chased her. I know that's what I should have done. But I didn't, because my feet were planted to the ground. I wanted to run after her, but my legs were frozen. I was too despondent.
She'd just used the F-bomb. She'd never talked to me that way before, I believed, or anyone else for that matter, so that may have just been the last straw. Our relationship was hanging on by a mere thread.
The annoying thing about it all was that I couldn't talk about it to anyone, despite how much I was hurting inside.
