After Misty left, Rand pounced on me with words.
"Why were you talking to Misty?" she demanded.
"None of your beeswax. And if you can ask me that then must I ask why you talkin' to me?" I replied.
"It is my business. You've been nothing but nice around her."
"You've been nothing but mean to her."
"Can we please work it out?" she begged.
"OK, let me think about it," I grinned. Then I said adamantly, "No."
"I have feelings for you. I still do. I really like you..."
"No is no," I said.
"I know you still like me," she said. "For my looks and my popularity. What's Mr. Charming gonna do without me?"
"Goodbye, Rand," I said.
I didn't tell her about me seeing Misty. If she found out, she would literally kill Misty out of insane jealousy. I couldn't let her.
I'd moved on quickly after the breakup. There was nothing Rand could do about it.
...Or was there?
During the rest of the week Misty and I didn't exactly act like an item, but we acted like friends. I guess she was busy studying physics and Calculus and History, so she didn't have enough time for me. I didn't bother her because I decided to study too. I also felt like Misty wanted to take the relationship slow, like she didn't fully trust me yet. Come to think of it, we did hate each other in the past. Which is why I didn't ask her out yet.
Misty and I were nice to each other for the week and we did chat and stuff like that, but we weren't too lovey-dovey. I made sure Rand didn't suspect a thing, which wasn't too hard, considering Rand and I weren't very amicable with each other after everything. She ignored me and left me alone afterwards.
I was also trying to figure out ways to ask her out. I've asked Rand out before more than once, but Misty wasn't Rand.
What if Misty said no?
I'd be heartbroken.
And I didn't know where Misty wanted either. The movies? Ice skating?
I didn't like that stuff but as long as Misty did I was fine.
Or we could hit a beach. Something like that.
Either way, girls could confuse me like hell sometimes. The way they scream and obsess over things like clothes and make-up. A guy would never dream of that.
But, ah, Misty, she's such a sexy beaut. A real looker.
Anyway, finals week came around sooner than I expected. I had Misty's little cheat sheets with me, and I went over everything and crammed right before physics finals.
Man, I was all nerves before the physics final.
"Ready?" Misty asked me. "Studied everything?"
"Everything?" I said. "I don't know, most things. I'm really tired. I'll probably fail physics."
"Don't say that. You got this. Just do. Not. Cheat. And man up. It won't be the end of the world."
"Roger that," I answered. "But I'm already manly enough."
"Uh-huh, OK. It's fine to breathe a little. Make sure you breathe, or you'll suffocate."
"If I did I wouldn't need to take the test." I smirked.
