Winter Wonderland. That was the school dance in the winter. Everyone was talking about that because it would be coming up in January. So were Sandy and Kendall and I. My besties and I hung out at Sandy's, where we shared secrets and gossip.
"You've been acting sooooo normal lately Misty," observed Kendall. "With Rick. It's like...you like him."
"Yeah," nodded Sandy in agreement.
"Is there something I'm not knowing about?" said Kendall. "Because you better tell me."
I propped myself up on my elbows on Sandy's bed. "OK, I didn't tell you before, but...Rick, well, I really like him."
"Rick Hastings?" said Kendall. "I knew it! But you hate him! So I'm finding you and him together a bit odd. He's such a jerk."
"I did, but...I guess I just suddenly liked him," I answered honestly. "And I get him." My feelings for Rick were just so unfathomable, even I didn't get it. My life was hard to understand.
"Don't ask me about what I think about your taste in boys," said Kendall, leaning back in her bean bag chair.
"I wasn't going to," I said.
"So do you like, like Rick? Or just as a friend?" said Sandy.
"I think it's the first point," I said.
"I don't get it," said Sandy. "One minute, you're like, haters, and the next you suddenly like him?"
"It's weird," I said. "I don't know either. But I mean, it's all after the breakup with Rand, so I'm not like, stealing him or anything. But what about you, Ken? Did Leo ask you to the Winter Wonderland?"
"No, but he's blushing every time he sees me!" said Kendall. "But then there's Francis who asked me. I like him. But he's shorter than me, like how lame is that. But you know Winston Strydom? That guy is handsome, but he has bad breath and sweaty armpits all the time. Then there's another one named Raymond who gives me gifts, but a total jerk to other people. So I still really like Leo. He's the cutest of them all and not annoying like most boys."
Uh-huh, of course. All the guys pounced on Kendall, which made me slightly jelly, but knowing her looks and her personality it kind of made sense to me, though not completely. But I mean, she did have big breasts.
"Are they fighting over you then?" asked Sandy.
"Something like that. But that's just boys being stupid. OK, now I'd like to hear about what's going on with Dan. That shy kid who likes math. You totes like him."
"He actually admits he likes me," said Sandy, blushing.
"Oh my gosh!" screamed Kendall. "That is so cute. The shy kid speaks? He's totes your perfect match. You two are so alike. I will ship it."
"But boys are so confusing," I moaned. "How do I know if he likes me or not? I mean Rick is even more confusing than regular boys because he's pretty odd and I can't read his signs."
"Well I don't know about you, but I flirt with Leo, and he likes it," said Kendall.
"You know Misty, I think when Rick runs his hand through his hair he likes you," said Sandy.
"Really?" I did not know that.
"Yeah. He did that with Rand a lot."
"I know he likes me, but it's still awkward. I feel like he'd hate me if I didn't like him," I said.
"He totes likes you either way," deadpanned Kendall. "He's a jerk, Misty."
"I wouldn't call him that," said Sandy.
