Genna's disappointment quickly become replaced with the need for damage control. She could fix this. She looked back and forth between Delilah who was full on sobbing, and Adam who looked completely bewildered.
"What's wrong, honey?" Adam asked as he ran a comforting hand up and down her arm. He noticed how Delilah wouldn't look at him, she kept her eyes on Genna. Uneasiness settled in the pit of his stomach.
"Genevieve?" he questioned. He successfully kept an accusatory tone out of his voice as he said her name. He studied her big brown eyes as she attempted to recover from Delilah's outburst.
"Sh-she, um, she and Logan got into a fight." Genna rushed out as she awkwardly patted Delilah's thigh. "It'll be fine. They're fine. Everyone's fine."
Adam nodded slowly. "I'm sorry to hear that." He leaned forward to try and catch Delilah's eye. "You wanna talk about it?"
"No!" Genna quickly answered for her. She locked eyes on Delilah again. "She told me that if she got upset on the ride home, to tell you that she doesn't wanna talk, she just wants to go to her room. Isn't that right, Delilah?"
Delilah stiffly nodded her head as she tried to calm herself. She dabbed at her eyes with the sleeve of her hoodie, still untrusting her own voice to speak. Adam nodded, and threw the truck into drive. He eyed the pair, not believing a word, but knew the truth would come out eventually. It always did.
The cries in the truck had slowed to the occasional sniffle by the time they made it back to the house. The girls quickly made their way upstairs to avoid any further inquiries from Adam.
Delilah went straight to her room and Genna was hot on her heels. She closed the door and watched Delilah pace the floor for a moment before speaking.
"You emotional fucking—"
"I KNOW," Delilah cried out as she ran her hands roughly through her hair. "I know, I just.. I panicked."
Genna shook her head. "You nearly blew it." She pointed back and forth between herself and the distraught girl. "We both, just lied. Again. You need to get your head out of your ass and start thinking about how you wanna keep it out of the line of fire, because if this little story comes unraveled, it's gonna be bad."
Delilah started breathing heavily. "I.. know.. I just.. I can't.."
Genna's eyes grew wide as Delilah started pushing herself toward a full blown panic attack.
"Delilah! Will you calm the fuck down?!"
"I'm... trying.. I.."
Genna threw her hands up in defeat. "Fuck it! I'll tell him my damn self and put you outta your misery!"
"NO!" Delilah yelled. She took a few deep breaths before whispering, "We're in too deep, now."
Genna gave her a what the fuck look. "This isn't an episode of Pretty Little Liars. I mean, we are pretty, and we are liars, but this is not that serious, Li. It's fine."
"Are you sure?"
Genna looked at the closed door as she contemplated. "Yeah."
"Let's do it after dinner," Delilah spilled out before Genna could reach for the door handle.
Letting out a quiet sigh of relief, Genna smiled. "Good idea."
The girls climbed up on Delilah's bed and with the use of her tablet, she put on their new favorite move: Love and Monsters. Just as the monster emerged from the water, Adam's voice was heard calling them down to dinner.
