Genna and Delilah walked into the house and promptly tossed their book bags on the entryway bench. After a million school projects, reports, and practice tests for end of the year finals, they were grateful the weekend had finally arrived.

"My brain is fried." Delilah rubbed her temples gingerly with her fingertips.

The pair walked into the kitchen and was greeted by the familiar sight of Adam preparing their afternoon snack.

Delilah immediately clapped her hands happily as she and her sister took a seat at the table. "Daddy, we'll never be too grown for you to stop makin' us snacks after school, right?"

Adam chuckled and placed the plate of assorted veggies, pita chips, and dip down in front of them. "Baby girl, I've been doin' this for ten years, what's a lifetime of indentured service?"

He bent down and kissed the top of her head before turning to do the same to Genna.

"How was school, sunshine?"

Genna laid her head down on the table and groaned in misery. "Talk more no. Mush brain my is."

Adam and Delilah both froze momentarily before laughing out loud despite the seriousness of her tone.

"Alright," Adam drawled. "Eat up and go take a nap. You're gonna need a fully functionin' brain tonight."

Delilah looked up at him. "Why, what's goin' on tonight?"

"Genevieve, is invitin' Rory over."

Genna's eyes widened and she instantly sat up straight. "Genevieve is doing what now?"

"She's invitin' Rory over," Adam repeated.

"No she's not."

"Yes she is."

"No, she's not."

Adam placed a hand on the table and leaned toward her. "Why don't you want her comin' over?"

The girl blinked several times, trying to think of the best way to word her reasoning. When Adam's fingers began to drum upon the table, she blurted out the only response that kept running through her mind.

"Because you'll smack her."

"Oh, come on." He made a guttural sound that landed somewhere between a scoff and a laugh. "I will not, what makes you think I'd do such a thing?"

"Because I know her, and more importantly, I know you, Dad."

"She's got ya there," Delilah piped in. "You'll definitely whack her right upside her pink, dopey head."

Genna threw a guacamole covered chip at Delilah. "Shut up, you're the only dopey person I know."

"Young lady, don't throw—hey!" Adam, redirected his admonishments when Delilah kicked Genna beneath the table, making the girl hiss in pain.
