Duel Between Men! Gongenzaka vs Yuya

Here's Chapter 21. Sorry if I was grouchy in the Author's Note. I shouldn't let what other people say influence my story. If I'm happy with the way I've written it, then that's enough.

Chapter 21: Duel Between Men! Gongenzaka vs Yuya

Gongenzaka Dojo

Multiple students of the Gongenzaka Dojo were all on the ground, lying in defeat as only one of them stood tall.

"My son..." Mr. Gongenzaka was in awe as his son stood over his defeated opponents.

Gongenzaka panted as sweat poured down his face and it hit the hard wood of the dojo. "This is all I can now..." Gongenzaka said.

Gongenzaka recalled how Yuzu, Ruri and Rin took on the LDS trio and how Ruri and Rin unleashed their Xyz and Synchro Summons against Hokuto and Yaiba. He even remembered how Yuzu continued to keep fighting and even though she loss, her fire didn't die down.

And then there was Yuya, his best friend, facing the Genius Duelist, Reiji Akaba and forcing him into a draw. He recalled the tremendous power when The Supreme King Gold Dragon – Odd-Eyes Lightning Dragon appeared behind Yuya.

"I will not fall behind! I will surpass all of them!" Gongenzaka stomped his feet hard on the ground that they pierced the dojo floor and into the dry dirt below. "With my Steadfast Duel!"

Sakaki Residence

The sun was beginning to rise as Yuya looked out the window into the city. "A lot of Duels have occurred in the Junior Youth Battle City Qualifiers."

He recalled how Ruri surpassed Michio's perfect recipe, how Rin used an incorrect answer to her advantage against Kyuando, how he Fusion Summoned Nature-Eyes from the bond he shared with Yuzu, and finally how Yuzu defeated Insector Haga, a former National Champion.

"Everyone has become stronger...today is the last push. No matter my opponent, I'll give it my all. With you guys..." Yuya held up his deck to his heart.

"But first..." Yuya slid down the fire pole. "...Mom, I'll take the Grand Slam today! Pancakes, bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs! Huh?"

Yuya noticed that his mom wasn't in the kitchen. "Mom?" Yuya called out. "Mom, are you here?!" Yuya looked around. He went up to the fridge. "Not even a note."

He then realized that something else was missing. "En! Core!" Yuya called for his dog and cat but they weren't around. Not even the additional strays were around.

"Where is everyone?"

"Geez..." Yuya took a bite of his homemade breakfast taco. "You think you would leave a message for your only son."

The elevator hit the ground floor. "Hey, guys. Ready for..." Yuya entered the room hoping to see everyone but there was no one there.

"The principal isn't here? That's weird." Yuya knew that Shuzo was the first to arrive at You Show.

"Yuzu! Ruri! Rin! You here?!" Yuya called out. "Futoshi! Ayu! Tatsuya!" He searched the Duel Arena, the classroom and the rock climbing wall but no one was there. "Where is everyone?"

"Where indeed?" A familiar voice asked.

"Urgh, hello Nico." Yuya sighed. He was getting really annoyed with this.
