And here we are with the beginning of the Battle Royal. This part of the Standard arc will be intense, more so than the anime, maybe. Be prepared to meet some familiar faces.
Silvioxp1300: Sorry I forgot to tell you my answer in the previous chapter. That does sound like an interesting Field Magic and the 1000 Life Points cost seems fair enough considering you are changing many aspects of the Duel. That being said, if you are okay with it, I'd like to incorporate it into the story.
Now on with the chapter!
Chapter 38: The Rare Hunters Strike
Center Court
The Junior Youth participants had all started to spread out into the city to begin searching for their Pendulum Cards.
"Now then, our warriors first need to find two Pendulum Cards scattered around the city, giving them the right to Duel each other! They will be betting those cards, with the winner obtaining them from the loser, and the final ranking will be decided based on the number of cards each player possesses!" Nico announced the rules to the audience.
"Who among these 16 will overcome these battles and advance to the Top 8? I'm getting excited!" Nico smiled.
"Good!" A new voice boomed over the entire city, confusing Nico, the audience and the participants. "It's good to be excited, especially when everything is going according to plan!"
At that moment, multiple men in dark cloaks entered the arena from different entrances and surrounded the entire audience. "Wh-Wh-Who are you people?" Nico got very scared as he backed away before he hit something behind him. He looked up and he panicked as Rishido towered over him.
"Your microphone, good sir." Nico saw Marik approaching him and had his hand out.
"T-Take whatever you want." Nico shakily handed the microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen of Maiami City, allow me to introduce myself." Screens all over the city showed Marik. "My name is Marik Ishtar, the leader of the Ghouls!"
"What is this? This wasn't supposed to happen?" Himika was shocked.
"Impossible. I had security set at every entrance point. How did they get in?" Reiji's eyes widened. He knew that the Ghouls would interfere, but he didn't expect them to do it right at the beginning.
"Listen up, Junior Youth Participants." Marik announced. "Right now, my combat unit, the Rare Hunters are now in the city along with you. They have been ordered to eliminate any Duelists they run into. They have also been instructed to follow the rules of the Battle Royal, giving you a little breathing room as they search for the Pendulum Cards scattered throughout the city. I give you my thanks, Reiji Akaba."
"The tactic that I used to determine which Duelists will be Lancers is being used against me." Reiji fixed his glasses.
"But how did he know of this?" Himika asked.
"Let me reveal the rules of the Ante Rule against my Rare Hunters. Should you claim victory over them, they're Pendulum Cards will be yours and they will immediately be dejected from the Battle Royal. However, should they win, not only will they take your Pendulum Cards, but they'll take every rare card you possess and reduce the rest to ash." Marik revealed.
"What?!" Shuzo gasped.
"They'll destroy their decks!" Serena's eyes widened.
"I'll give you participants 15 minutes to find Pendulum Cards." A timer appeared on the screens. "Once those 15 minutes pass, I will activate the Action Field and the Duels will commence. Prepare yourself."
