Chapter 48 - Break

Y/n's POV:

"WHAT THE FUCK Y/N?" Scarlett's voice yells down the phone. I've never heard her voice so full of venom. "Woah! Calm down Scarlett, what's wrong?" I ask but I just hear her scoff down the phone.

Scarlett: I've seen the photos. Is that the real reason you went back to England so you could see your ex?! All whilst I was left back here in LA looking after your daughter!

I'm completely shocked at her accusations and it's now I realise that she clearly doesn't trust me. After everything, she'll still assume the worst in me.

Y/n: Are you being serious? Of course, I didn't go back for her. I was having lunch with Julia and Lindsey spotted us. I didn't even know she was living in London as I've not spoken to her in years!

I say trying to not yell in response down the phone.

Scarlett: Well, that's not how it looks in all the photos.  The way she is looking at you, like your her next meal, her hand on your arm. 

Y/n: Exactly Scarlett! She was looking at me, touching me, there is no reciprocation in any of that. 

I try to defend myself but I already can see this is going to be a losing battle. She's getting herself worked up and I'm worried that she's not going to hear me. 

Scarlett: But you had lunch with her, what is that saying. You couldn't even tell me you were meeting her.

Y/n: Scarlett, you're not hearing me. I didn't have lunch with her. I was calling you now to tell you that I had bumped into her. I promise you that it was a complete coincidence that Lindsey was there.

I try to calm her down, but she is so worked up. I need to keep calm and not make things worse, but it's hard when she's attacking me like this.

Y/n: Julia was there too, but I guess she's not in the photos as that wouldn't fit the narrative. You can ask her, she was there and saw the whole awkward encounter. She can back me up.

Scarlett: Oh, like I'm going to trust her word when she's been eyeing you up since she's met you. I've seen the photos from your whole trip Y/n. You look very friendly with her. I can't believe I've been so stupid!

Y/n: That is because she is my friend and we've been working together. What did you expect? That we'd just eat dinner separately? She is happily married, and I'm head over heals in love with you!

I end up yelling back and instantly wince at the level of my own voice. There's silence for a moment and I can hear Scarlett's heavy breath down the line.

Scarlett: Where were you yesterday when I tried to call you and you didn't answer?

Y/n: I was at Dicky's grave and then I went and had dinner with his parents. I turned my phone off, so I wasn't distracted as I hadn't seen them in over 2 years. I called you as soon as I was home to talk about the photos but you assured me that you trusted me. But thank you for showing that that's not true, Scarlett. I can't believe you would think that I ever would cheat on you!

My heart is breaking to know that even after 8 months of being together, she is choosing to believe some photos from a news article rather than listening to me and the truth.

Scarlett: Well, it's hard to believe otherwise when I see the photos.

Y/n: When you were photographed kissing Colin, I let you explain and listened to you. I trusted what you said was true. Why can't you give me the same courtesy, you're taking the photos at face value and not actually letting me explain how I found that encounter with Lindsey horrible.
