Chapter 5

It's currently 2:45 pm, I'm in for such a long day. We did use to have multiple receptionist's but they all left so it's just me and Greta now, I quickly log out of Greta's account and onto my own, I don't have enough time to look through it as Giuseppe is now standing directly in front of me " Sofia, thank you so much for this doing. I've sorted that you won't have to come in tomorrow night as that would be highly unfair of me to ask you to do that so you're free tomorrow night to do as you wish, also I got praise from Mr Norris and his group early this morning from your service to them last night so thank you for that also, you're a delight to have working for us and I couldn't bare to lose you so I've talked to the night shift floor staff, I've told them they are to help you or they will have to go through the full 2 months training from scratch again so hopefully that helps you. One thing I do have to mention though, Mr Norris has requested that you do all the services that he requests, only for him though. The floor staff will deal with his group, I haven't accepted that request as I wanted to talk to you about it first, if you need time to think about it I understand but it's a big deal that he wants you to deal with him personally. Now onto your pay, you're getting paid €12.90 an hour, is that correct?" He stares directly and I feel like I could crumble underneath his glare "Yeah that's right" He brings out his phone "So I talked to a couple people higher up and we're happy enough to raise your pay up to €15 an hour, I'm not saying this is going to happen often, but if in a serious matter and you're asked to come in before your shift, depending what time you come in will be a bonus. So the likes of today, you're in at 2pm let's say, you aren't meant to start until 6pm so then that will be a €40 bonus for today and then say another day you come in at 4pm, that will be a €20 bonus, does this make sense to you?" I feel my smile widening and I can barely contain my excitement over this "Yes! Thank you so much Giuseppe!" He pats the top of the desk and gives a small smile "It's no problem Sofia, also I will be having a chat with Greta tomorrow, I understand this job is frustrating enough at times and we don't need co-workers making it hard for anyone, but Sofia, I just want to thank you for your hard work, you're a star" He sticks his hand out and I politely shake it "Also about Mr Norris, do you need a think about that situation, I think you should do it Sofia" I bite at my lip and I almost want to say no but it is sorta a big deal that he asked for me personally "Yeah, I'll do it, what could go wrong?" He winks towards me "Perfect, I'll tell Mr Norris now. Have a good day Sofia, any problems and I'm just next door to you" He pulls out his phone and struts away into his office. I can't help but be excited about getting close to Lando, he seems sweet. 

I spend my time taking a couple phone calls and replying to emails, the semi silent lobby apart from the gentle music is suddenly full of loud voices "That was a good day, we got good clips for the youtube channel, you have a big day tomorrow Lando, you should go rest now" I look up and I'm met with Lando and his friends "Oh hi Sofia" His friends continue onto the elevator and soon it's just me and him in the lobby "Are you always in this early? Where is the other girl?" He's staring at my lips and I can't help but feel the butterflies again in my stomach, something about the way he looks at me "She had to go home early, so you have me until 6am" I slightly smile at him "So how long are you working today then?" His voice is full of worry "I came in around half 2 I think, it's not that bad" I try to convince myself that it's fine but deep down I know it's not good for me to be working that long "That's not good for you Sofia, you need your rest" His voice seems so small and he's taking such a gentle approach to me "Yeah, I know, but they needed my help and I couldn't say no" Why am I even telling him this much, what is happening? "Well to be honest, I'm not glad you're working that long but I'm happy it's you. That other girl was strange" He looked around to make sure no one was listening and then let out a small laugh "Also your manager texted to say that you are now my personal slave" Followed by a loud laugh this time "I'm only joking. I like how you explain things and would prefer you to help me instead of someone else, thanks for agreeing to do it" I begin to fiddle with the pen sitting beside me "It's no problem, thanks for praising me to him. It's nice to hear that from guests" He stretches his arms across his body and begins to yawn "So I take it you won't be coming to the race this weekend?" He asks in a serious tone "No, I'll be working" He blows air from his cheeks and his face softens "What about tomorrow? It's only free practice, I could show you around my garage and how everything works, it will be fun" He raises one eyebrow, I silently think to myself, I suppose I am off tomorrow "Will it not be too much hassle for you? Trying to practice and show me around?" He scoffs "Definitely not, I'll make the time for you" And with that he walks off before suddenly stopping in front of the elevator "I liked that post on instagram from you, you looked good, free practice starts tomorrow at 2pm so we will have to be there around 12pm, I'll text you on instagram, text me your address if you want, if not that's fine,I'll get you here" I silently laugh "What makes you think I'm off tomorrow" A cheeky laugh comes from the elevator now "Who do you think helped you get tomorrow off! I asked your manager, he was standing stressing out about your co-worker and I overheard him ringing you so I told him to give you tomorrow off!" Another cheeky laugh and then the ding to indicate the elevator door had closed. Sorry what? He made Giuseppe give me tomorrow off, I'm so confused. Time to get on with my day and night.
