Chapter 46

My head snaps around to the door expecting to see a visitor or a nurse standing there but as I look around to the empty room feeling overwhelmed by a confused trance "I must be losing my mind" I laugh to myself as the room remains empty, only me and Lando, just like it has been for a couple of days now minus the doctors and nurses coming in to check on him, I turn my attention back to the laptop as the after race interviews continue, they talk of Lando some more wishing him a speedy recovery and that they can't wait for him to be back on the grid, I glance over to Lando as I would do anything for him to be awake and talking "My mind must be playing games... what the fuck" I stand up and tower over Lando's body as I feel I've just seen his eyes open and suddenly close again, I shake him lightly "Lando?..." I barely whisper as I place my hand on top of his "Are you awake?..." Oh my god, if someone saw me now I would more than likely be put into a mental institution, after a while of nothing coming from it I decide to take a seat again and just tell myself I'm drained from the lack of sleep so therefore I'm hallucinating. I pull the seat closer to the bed as I keep my hand on top of Lando's, he's feeling a lot warmer than usual. The race weekend is finally over as the podium is celebrated and all the drivers and teams are all leaving and more than likely getting prepared for Abu Dhabi, I remove my hand off Lando's to close the laptop before placing it onto the bedside table, I glance over to the sofa bed and decide I'll sleep there tonight as clearly the lack of sleep is driving me nuts, I lean down and place a gentle kiss onto Lando's forehead as I've done the last couple nights expecting him to awake from his deep sleep as if this is Sleeping Beauty fantasy, I pull away from Lando's warm forehead as my eyes remain closed and as I stand up fully and open my eyes, I'm met with a sight I've been dying to see for weeks.

"Lando?" His blue eyes stare back at me as they blink a couple of times to bring moisture back to them, his eyes close again and remain like that for a couple of seconds as I stay stood beside the bed shocked, not believing my eyes "Am I dreaming right now?" I talk to myself not knowing if this is real life or what the fuck is happening to me, I keep my focus on him attempting to not even blink in case I miss something "Why..." He begins to cough madly and I rush to grab him the glass of water that sits on the bedside table, I gently bring it up to his lips and let him take a drink of it, he takes a couple mouthfuls before hinting that he's done so I take the glass and place it back onto the table "Holy fuck" He sighs loudly as I can't believe what I'm seeing "Oh my god! I should get a nurse!!" I sprint out of the room as I hear Lando mutter something behind me but I pay no attention to it, I run up to the nurse's station and the woman sitting looks at me with a concerned look "He's awake! Lando's awake" I spit out at her in such speed that it more than likely sounded like nonsense to her, the nurse stands up "Sorry pet? I didn't quite catch that, are you alright?" I glance between her and the door of Lando's room which I left wide opened "Lando, he's awake" I say now in a more calm sense and the nurse seems to understand me as she presses something on her pager, she nods her head to me to let me she understands "Ok, I've paged Dr Lawson, she'll be there soon" She takes a seat again and I rush back into the room where I see a very confused Lando as he looks around and takes in view of the hospital room, I run up to beside the bed as he turns to look at me "Why am I in hospital, what happened?" My eyes begin to water as I realise he can't remember anything and a bit of me is glad he doesn't "You don't remember?..." He looks up at me with his soft blue eyes as he lightly shakes his hand no, I go to speak again to tell him of the crash but Dr Lawson bursts in the door holding a clipboard "Hiya Lando, I'm your doctor, Dr Lawson. Lovely to see you're awake, I'm going to do a couple checks and then we have to bring you up for a couple of scans, won't be that long and then you can finally catch up with this charming young lady who wouldn't leave your side for these 2 months" Dr Lawson smiles at me and I give her a brief smile back before turning my attention back to Lando, Dr Lawson begins her checks, shining a light into Lando's eyes along with checking some of his reflexes along with his bodily movements "2 months... what do you mean?" His voice is small and I can tell by the tone that he's hurt "We need to get these scans done as soon as possible, I'll update you afterwards Lando" Nurses begin to fill the room and begin to push Lando out of the room and bring him up to the scans, Dr Lawson follows them before briefly stopping at the door "You should ring his parents" She smiles before following the nurses along with Lando as they walk towards the elevator. I take my phone out of my pocket and press down on Cisca's name before bringing the phone to my ear as I hear the ring dial before the phone suddenly picks up, I tell her the good news and she screams that loud that I have to remove the phone from my ear as she screams with happiness, I hear her screaming for Adam to come over to the phone "I can't believe this! What have the doctors said?" I can feel the happiness oozing out of her "He's away for a couple of scans but I'll text you as soon as I find out" I hear Adam moving around in the background of the phone call "Should we book tickets out there Adam?" Cisca speaks frantically, the pair of them indulge themselves in their own conversation and I feel awkward not knowing whether to hang up as I feel like I'm listening in on their conversation "Right Sofia! We're booking tickets to fly out but we won't arrive until tomorrow evening or night, I can't believe this! I'm so happy... Who all knows?" I walk back and forward in the hospital hallway as I anticipate Lando coming back "Just us three" My head snaps to the elevator as I hear the ding, my heart sinks as it's just an older couple walking out from it  "Thank you for respecting our wishes of not making this public Sofia, we'll see you tomorrow some time" I smile as the phone hangs up and I make my way back into the room to take a seat as my body is exhausted and even the simple action of standing is draining me, I let my body relax into the chair as I fight the feeling of my eyes wanting to close shut on me.
