It has been three hours. That girl--Miji--my roommate, has been in the bathroom for three hours. Getting ready for the party I assume. And I have had to pee for two of those three hours.

I consider knocking on the door, but that girl has not said a single word to me since we unpacked.

I give up and I go down the hall to Sunwoo's room. He's only two doors away and I knock on it gently.

His roommate opens the door and says, "can I help you?"

"Is Sunwoo here?" I ask.

At the sound of my voice Sunwoo shuffles over to the door and the other boy disappears into the room.

"What?" He asks.

"Geez what's up with you?" I ask, even though that's his normal tone.

"It's cold and I can't figure out the wifi password." he answers. "Why are you here?"

"Can I use your bathroom? My roommate is still locked inside mine," I explain.

"Oh sure," Sunwoo lets me in.

I quickly pee and when I come out Sunwoo's roommate is gone.

"Why can't we just room together?" I ask and I sit on the edge of Sunwoo's bed. He's standing on it, trying to get his phone as high up as possible as if that will give him better service.

"I don't know this whole thing is dumb." He says.

I grin nervously, "So you definitely wouldn't come with me to the party tonight?" I ask.

"Fuck no." He says. "Dammit! The bar is gone!"

"It's a sign," I say. "They want you to get off your phone and get ready for the party."

"Read my lips," He says. "no."

"hmm," I stand up. "Guess I'll have to go by myself then,"

"Wait-what? You're actually going??" He drops his phone on the bed.

"Yeah, why not?" I ask.

"Stop pulling this shit," Sunwoo touches his head to the ceiling. "This isn't like you, what's happening?"

"What 'shit' sunwoo? I'm a teenager going to a teen party on the ski trip. That's literally the entire purpose of going," I say.

"Yeah but...." He runs a hand through his wavy hair. "Fine whatever. Go, like I care."

"Fine. I will." I narrow my eyes at him.

"Good." He says.

"Good," I slowly back out.

I wait for a beat by the door to see if he'll say anything more, but he doesn't, so I close it after I leave.

When I get back to my room Miji is gone, probably to go set up the alcohol.

I finally get the bathroom to myself so I put on a black sports bra and Jean shorts—because obviously, I didn't pack thinking there would be a pool party.

I debate over a black beanie versus a brown baseball hat in the bathroom mirror. I nearly text Sunwoo but then I remember he 'doesn't care.'

I pick the beanie and I take a good long look at myself.

You can do this Sola. It's just socializing. All you have to do is go downstairs and to the back patio and have fun. Yeah, that's right, this is fun.

I ignore the way my stomach turns nervously as I navigate down the velvet stairs and past the lobby where there are cozy furniture pieces around the brick fireplace.
