😎📖💚🥞🌞🐙"This is so dumb! Why are we doing this?" Sunwoo complains.
"Because it's a tradition," I whisper and I shush him.
It was no problem sneaking out of my house, obviously, because nobody was home. But Sunwoo on the other hand, his mom has been all about school lately.
"It's a stupid tradition that's what it is," Sunwoo says. He's currently struggling to latch onto the rope hanging out of his bedroom window.
"Have some faith," I say, looking up at him from the ground.
"You don't have to whisper my mom is dead asleep." Sunwoo says.
"You sure?"
"I'm positive. Those sleeping pills have become an every night thing," Sunwoo says. "I can't do this."
"You can!" I say. "Would you rather try to sneak out through the door? You'll definitely get caught."
"I can be sneaky."
"We both know that's a lie. Now come on, you won't fall I promise." I say.
"I don't think you understand how high up this drop looks from here." Sunwoo says.
If you couldn't tell, he has a fear of heights. He always has. When we were younger Sunwoo never liked going on swings because he didn't like the feeling of his stomach dropping.
"I'll catch you," I promise.
"Okay now that's a lie." Sunwoo says.
"I'll hold the rope steady," I grab it from the bottom and Sunwoo slowly creeps out the window. he grabs the rope tightly with both hands and slowly inches down to his front lawn.
"I can't believe I'm alive," He says, out of breath.
"You're unbelievable, that's barely ten feet." I say.
"Shut up."
We grab our bags and head down the street. It's completely silent since everyone is asleep by now.
We hear a car behind us and the headlights shine on the street to the left of the sidewalk.
"Hide!" I grab Sunwoo's hand.
"What the hell?? No just act natural!" He says.
"What if it's the police?" I ask.
"It's not, we would have heard sirens." He says. "It's not illegal to take a walk at night...right?"
"I don't know!"
Suddenly the car horn beeps and we both jump. I turn around and I have to narrow my eyes to see that it's Hyunjae's car, and he's driving alongside us.
"You guys need a lift?" He asks.
"Yes," I say while Sunwoo says "no!"
We both shoot each other glares.
"It's too cold out there to walk." Hyunjae says.
"Come on, Sunwoo," I drag him to the car.
Sunwoo grumbles something, probably swearing, and we climb into the back seats. We drive in silence to the school. The tension is heavy. Hyunjae and I haven't really talked since he apologized in our presentations, and all Sunwoo said about it was, I just don't want him to hurt you again.
He parks in the front lot and the three of us walk quietly to the entrance. There is a large crowd of people in our grade standing there.
"So how do we get in?" I ask.
