"Sola, Sunwoo, Jihun, and Hyunjae, could you three come up here please?" The teacher waves us over while everyone else works on their projects.

We stand at the front of the room nervously while she looks down at a piece of paper.

"I'm going to need you all to switch partners. I heard there was an incident yesterday," She eyes Sunwoo's black eye.

"Thank god," I mutter under my breath.

"Sola you'll be with Hyunjae, and Jihun with Sunwoo."

"Wait what??" we all shout.

"Can't it be me and Sola?" Sunwoo asks her.

"Yeah I don't want to be with him!" Jihun says.

"The best way to get along is to work things out one on one. You all might stay enemies forever if you don't talk to each other." The teacher says. "Go now, work on the project."

None of us move for a very long time.

Hyunjae and I sit in more awkward silence than I did with Jihun.

"so, the project." Hyunjae says after a while.

I clear my throat. As much as I'd like to just ignore each other, we are in our last year of high school and getting a zero on this project would tank our grades.

"Yeah." I say. "For the sake of school let's just start over."

Hyunjae looks at me. "Okay."

"Not personally." I add. "I mean just so we can get this over with. I don't expect us to become friends after this or anything."

"...right. Yeah, that's fine." He says, but his voice cracks at the end.

"Okay. Psychology, let's start."

I pack my backpack when the bell rings, just as we agreed on, Hyunjae and I don't linger to talk. We go back to our respective desks without another word.

I almost think that it'll be okay until Miji taps my arm.

"What is it?" I scowl.

"Well geez," She laughs. "I was only going to give you some advice."

"Advice to what?" I ask. "You're not exactly my role model, I don't really aspire to be anything like you."

Sunwoo, who stands behind me, lets out a quiet laugh. That's right, this boy laughs more than he smiles.

Miji rolls her eyes but continues, "You know the best revenge is showing him you're perfectly fine."

"Thanks, but I'm not really looking for revenge." I say, though a part of me is interested in what she's saying.

"There's a party tonight at my house. Everyone will be there. Bring your friend, all you have to do is have some fun and he'll be withering in his house the whole day after." Miji says. "Trust me, I've had my fair share of this."

"Okay Miji, fuck off already." Sunwoo says.

She looks him up and down, "you look even more pathetic up close. Honestly Sola, leave him."

"Bye, Miji." I shake my head at her and Sunwoo and I leave.

"Have you ever met someone so unbearable??" Sunwoo asks.

"I can name another." I say.

"How's the project going?" He asks.

"It'll be okay." I say.
