I slam my locker shut, and Sunwoo jumps.

"What's with you today?" He asks. Though I should be asking him that. Lately he's been even more moody and he's not telling me why.

"Guess who's house I have to go to after school today?" I ask

"Who?"

"You know who." I groan.

"Yikes. You want me to break your arm so you have an excuse?" Sunwoo asks.

"I'll pass." I answer.

We bring our trays to the library and the librarian greets us.

"I just have to play it cool like-"

We both stop in our tracks. Usually the library is mostly empty at this time.

But of course, he's here.

"Why are you doing here?" Sunwoo says shamelessly.

Hyunjae looks up from his tray. He was staring at his rice as if it was giving him life advice.

"The library is open to everyone," Hyunjae replies. He sounds tired, like he's going to give up or something.

Seeing him so helpless like this makes me feel bad. Not because I'm weak and I forgot what he did to me, but I have to give him some credit for owning up to it now.

He looks lost.

"Well this is where we sit," Sunwoo continues. I gently tap his arm, signaling for him to give Hyunjae a break.

"Oh, sorry I didn't mean to follow you or anything. I can leave," Hyunjae begins to stand up.

"Y-you don't have to," I say quickly. "It's a public place."

Sunwoo gives me a look but I drag him to the table and we sit a few seats away from Hyunjae.

Sunwoo and I slowly start making conversations like normal, but it's hard when the whole room is silent and our current enemy number one is sitting a few feet away.

"Oh fuck," Sunwoo says when his phone rings. "It's my mom."

"Answer it," I say.

"What? No way," He puts it back in his pocket.

"What if it's an emergency? She never calls you during school," I say.

"Every time she calls she starts lecturing me," Sunwoo groans.

"Just do it. You might regret it later on," I say.

The boy grumbles before stepping a few shelves away to answer the phone.

I turn back to the table and I accidentally meet Hyunjae's eyes. He seems to be struggling to focus on the book in his hands.

Of course, everything he does makes it look like he should be on pinterest. He even makes the school library look aesthetic.

We linger on each others' eyes for too long and he clears his throat. The empty atmosphere is begging for either of us to break the silence.

"...that book isn't worth the read," I say hesitantly.

His eyes fill with light at me talking to him. Hyunjae perks up and drops the book on the table.

"It's trash," He says. "I wanted to like it though."

"Me too," I say.

Silence again.

"So why are you halfway through if you don't even like it?" I ask.
