I enter the big school and to my surprise it is actually really nice. Usually when I have been new in a school I've learned names of students by reading the scribbles on the walls, also the floors and walls are often breaking apart. This school was fresh and clean and I love it.I need to find my way to the principal's office to get my schedule and introduce myself. That's the worst thing about coming to the school as a new kid, it's always so awkward when the principal asks the worn out question So Lola, who are you? or Ms.Gilbert, tell me about yourself. Ugh.
I finally find a door that says Principal Donald Presland on it and I carefully knock. The door snaps open revealing a kind face with a huge smile glued to it."Hi there! You must be Lola Gilbert. Come on in" He has got an obvious american accent. I like it, I makes me feel calmer. Home. I was born in America and lived there until three years ago when we moved to England. "Hi! Yes, that would be me." I simply respond."Oh! Sweet baby jesus! You're american? How lovely! Where're you from?" He asks happily."Um, I'm born in Minnesota, but I have lived pretty much everywhere. We move a lot.""Oh, yes dear. I can see so. Ten schools in eight, how can you do it?" I really don't want to talk about this..."Well, I don't really have a choice, I would prefer to stay at a school for longer than a year, but you get used to it."The bell goes off and Mr.Presland quickly hands me my schedule and tells me to "scoot". I look down at the piece of paper in my hands and it says that the first class I have is biology. Yay, my fave..... or nah.
As embarrassing as it is, I can't seem to read the numbers on the doors and therefore I have to peak my head into classes and check what's going on in there. When I do get to the right class I try to discreetly sneak in."Ms.Gilbert! How nice of you to join us." The teacher calls me out with an annoyed voice."Um.... Sorry that I'm late. I couldn't find the right room." I hear chuckles from the back. Damn it. I'm the weirdo again."It's fine. Take a seat here at the front" I walk up to the front and take a seat next to a girl with huge hair and no one sitting around her. She looks lonely and even weirder than me so why not.
The class is way too long and I feel like I'm gonna fall asleep. Great beginning of the new school year. Ms.Nowak is kind enough to let us go five minutes early and I see that my next class is french. Yes, this is more my element. I like languages and especially french. This time I am actually in time early to be honest and I take a seat at the front, again. The classroom is still empty until five minutes before the class begins, but then I guy walks in. He is tall and he sways a little when we walks. He has curly brown hair that is wildly resting on his head. As he comes closer I can see that he has a few tattoos. Scary that one. He walks up to the desk that I'm sitting at and stares at me with a serious face for a few seconds before taking the seat next to me. I believe I took his seat and he did not appreciate it. He is kind of strange.... He sits right next to me and is staring at my seat, but he doesn't say a word. I decide to break the weird silence.
"Sorry, did I take your seat? I can move if you'd like" I say. I really don't feel like making any enemies on my first day.
"No, it's fine" He says with a stone face and a rich british accent. When he looks up at me I see a hint of green in his eyes. That's nice.
"Thanks. I'm Lola by the way. I'm new." I continue the conversation. Maybe if I manage to make one friend I can survive this year.
"You are american." He caught me off guard by saying. Why is he so strange?
"Um yes I am. I'm from..." I'm interrupted by him standing up, walking away and taking a seat in the very back of the classroom. That's polite, he must have been very interested in me. He obviously doesn't want to be friends with me.
As the class goes on, I can feel the strange boy's eyes on me the entire time. I don't dare to look back and meet his gaze, but I feel watched from the start to the end of french class. When the class is over, I wait till everyone has left the classroom to ask the teacher a question about the the assignment for next week. Excuse moi Monsieur Messina. J'ai une question pour le devoir. I asked him if he could explain it to me so I could start early, but apparently it was supposed to be a group project, so I wasn't allowed to start alone. I like to finish homeworks early so I never have to feel that I'm falling behind. Also that makes me prepared for all lessons for that unit, then of course it's a bonus that the teachers love it.
When the day is finally over I couldn't be happier. As expected I didn't make any friends nor did I learn any names, not that I care about anyone here. I get into my car and drive home. I don't have to pick up Dora, because she ends way earlier than me and walks home. When I get home I change into my comfy clothes and have my dinner. After dinner I'm gonna have to look into getting a job somewhere here. I'd like to make some money of my own for once and I would like to do my own things without my parents knowing everything. I have already written a list with things I need to get done, but for now I'm just gonna plug in my headphones and drift off in music.
