I set the alarm for 8:30 last night and I really regret that now. I think I slept like five hours or something and now I'm supposed to look super fresh and sporty when applying for a job. I feel like those words are the exact opposite of me at the moment. Well, I did get myself in this situation so I'm gonna use my acting skills. I look like a dead troll, but that's nothing some conceler and coffé can't fix.
Sally is still asleep so before I do anything else I gently shake her a bit by the shoulders.
"Sally wake up. We're gonna be late" I whisper to her. She starts moving and groaning.
"Stoooop. It's saturday. No school." I can tell she tries to say that with some force, but she sounds like a whining baby.
"You're right. It is saturday and there is no school, but if you wanna keep your job, I suggest you try to get your ass out of bed." I say and walk over to my wardrobe. I'm lucky enough to have both my wardrobe and a bathroom in my room, so I don't have to run around my house naked or fight over the shower.
"Oh fuck." Sally sits straight up in her bed and looks at her phone.
"When are you supposed to be there?" I ask her referring to her job.
"Teeeeeeen" She whines and put her head in her hands.
"Oh come on Sally. Get up. You'll feel better when you are out of bed. Besides, don't you love going to work?" I know for a fact that staying in bed will only make you more tired, that's why I always hurry out of bed so I don't get stuck there. Sally rolls of the bed and lands on the floor. She slowly stand up and gives me a 'I hate you because you're right'look.
"No, I don't feel better. And yes, I do love my job, but the early mornings...ugh!! I hate them!" She is worse than me in the morning. That's really difficult, but I think she did it. If she's like this at 8.30, I don't wanna know what she's like at 06.00.
Eventually Sally wakes up and we get ready and go our separate ways. Her job is in the city and my potential job is just a few minutes from school, which makes me want it even more. It's seriously perfectly located for me.
As I approach the building I grow very nervous. I walk up to the desk where you pay if you're gonna swim and prepare a little introduction in my head.
"Hi. I saw that help is wanted here. My name is..." I begin as I try to find my little resume in my bag, (I swear it's like Narnia in there) but I'm interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Lola?" The voice says. What? I snap my head up to see who the voice belongs to.
"Oh my god, Tim? Hey! Do you work here?" I ask surprised. Well, of course he does since he is behind the desk with a shirt that says his "staff" and his name.
"Yeah I do actually. Are you here to apply for the job?" He asks.
"Yes, that's my plan. Am I too late?" I ask slightly embarrassed.
"Well, no. I don't think so. There's been two other guys here, but they didn't really impress my boss, so no. You still have a chance." He smiles.
"That's great! Can I talk to him now?" I ask sounding a bit too excited.
"Yes, you can talk to her now" He laughs. Oh damn it. I can feel my face tuning red. "I'll go and get her now. Wait right there." He tells me and goes into a room behind the desk. Oh my god. I have to be really professional now. Oh lord. I don't know how to be professional! Shit.
I take a seat on one of the chairs on the other side of the desk. I look in to the pool room and get nervous. It's really nice here and I would LOVE to work here. I don't want to screw up.
I sit here for what feels like ages and the nervousness grows like crazy. What if Tim's in there and his boss don't want to talk to me at all. Oh no. Thankfully just seconds later a woman walks out of the room.
"Lola Gilbert? Is that you sweetie?" She asks. She looks like a lovely woman. One more reason that I want this job.
"Yeah, hi. That's me. Nice to meet you." I say as I walk up to her and shake her hand. She gives me a smile and all of a sudden the nervousness is gone.
"Come here Lola, follow me to my office." We walk through the staff room and I see Tim. He mouths "good luck" and gives me the thumbs up sign. When we get into her office we sit down by her desk and she starts interviewing me.
"So, Lola. I hear you are not from England. Where are you from?" She asks
"Uhm, I'm from America. We move quite a lot, so I'm not really from one place, but I was born in New York and moved to England about four years ago." I tell her. After that we talked about my working experience and swim/exercise experience. I didn't know, but this place also has a huge gym, a dojo, a football field and a cafeteria and everything looks so nice.
"Oh sweet baby jesus, look at the time. It's been absolutely lovely talking to you, you are a great girl and I'll call you sometime next week to let you know about the job, okay?" She said in the beginning of our meeting that it would just take about 30 minutes, but we ended up talking for over an hour. I have a tendency of going a bit off topic sometimes.
I say goodbye to Tim and he promises to try to get me the job. On my way out of the building I walk past a guy that looks to be about my age. He's got blond hair and bright blue eyes. I wonder why I've never seen him before.
