42. LOVE IS LOVE & ALL THAT
AN OCEAN OF SLEEPING bags covered the floor of the Great Hall, and inside those sleeping bags were the entire Hogwarts student-body. To the left of the hall, where the Hufflepuff table usually sat, was Thea and her sleeping bag. Her brothers and her cousins surrounded her, but right next to her was Cedric, who was already asleep. Thea turned her head when she heard the doors to the Great Hall open, and Snape, Valencia, Emanuel, and Filch joined Dumbledore in the center of the room.
"Ms. Villareal and I searched the Astronomy Tower and the Owlery," Emanuel, who with Valencia, showed up immediately as soon as Dumbledore informed them that Sirius was spotted in the castle. "We found nothing, Headmaster."
"The third floor's clear too, sir." Filch added.
"Thank you, very good." Dumbledore said graciously while Snape approached them.
"I've done the dungeons. No sign of Black, nor anywhere else in the castle." Snape informed, crossing his arms while glaring at Emanuel and Valencia for a moment.
Emanuel held back a teasing grin, just exchanging a look with Valencia, who smirked. Even after all these years, the two of them and their friend-group still got under Snape's skin so easily.
"I didn't really expect him to linger." Dumbledore admitted.
"Remarkable feat, don't you think? To enter Hogwarts Castle on one's own— completely undetected?" Snape questioned and Emanuel crossed his own arms. He didn't like where the Professor was going with this.
"Quite remarkable, yes." Dumbledore agreed.
"Any theories on how he managed it?" Valencia asked innocently, daring Snape to suggest something.
"Many. Each as unlikely as the next." Dumbledore replied.
"You may recall, prior to the start of term I expressed concerns, about your appointment of Professor—" Snape began to say and Emanuel and Valencia immediately glared furiously at the man.
"After all these years—" Emanuel began to speak, anger growing in his chest. He understood how it looked. It was a full moon night, so Remus was no where to be found— And it just happened to be on the night that Sirius was spotted.
"Not a single professor inside this castle would help Sirius Black enter it." Dumbledore ended the argument quickly, both Emanuel and Snape settled down. "I'm quite convinced the castle is safe, and I'm more than willing to send the students to their houses."
"What about Potter? Should he be warned?" Snape asked while Emanuel gave him a look, asking why he cared for Harry.
"Perhaps. But for now, let him sleep." Dumbledore told the Professor before Snape walked away.
"Mr. Barreno and I will leave in the morning," Valencia promised. "Carina and the quads already know to be careful."
"The quads will look out for Harry, they always do." Emanuel added. "Thank you for allowing us to come, Headmaster."
