I tend to hype myself up,
I am a habitual over thinker,
And when reality isn't up to par with my expectations,
Quite a bit of anxiety tends to linger.
The more worried I am,
The more I picture what might be,
But then I feel ashamed to have assumed,
When I realize my imagination isn't what I see.
The real world likes to hit back,
If only I could stop throwing the first punch,
But the more I worry that I'm worrying more than I should,
I end up worrying and overthinking far too much.
Maybe if I just stopped thinking,
Turn the butterflies to numb,
Yet when I turn out all the extra noise I can't be me,
And being anyone but who you are is honestly no fun.
So I plod along each day,
Inner me is screaming,
Constant thoughts in every direction running,
It's not the healthiest, but it's the better option to which I'm leaning.
