Chapter Eight

THREE YEARS LATER

Daemon three years later was still fighting a battle against the Stepstones with Lord Corlys.
A few things had changed.
Otto Hightower had pledged that Verena would be married in this year.

King Viserys and Queen consort Alicent had bore two babes.
One with the name Aegon Targaryen. One with the name Helaena Targaryen. Queen Alicent is also pregnant with their third child.
Verena and Alicent remained estranged.
Her betrayal was not something easily forgiven.
Rhaenyra barely talked to the queen.
She barely looked at her.
Alicent had been the one personally to birth Rhaenyra's competition for heir.

It was Aegon's second name day. It was not a happy day for Rhaenyra so she sat in the Godswood with Verena sitting close next to her humming along to the song being played continuously.
It was one of her favourite and Rhaenyra's.
Rhaenyra's instructed the bard to sing the song again.
He retorted by asking if she wanted to hear something else.
Bored of singing the same song.

"Does it look like she wants to hear anything else.
Play it again for the princess."

"issi ao okay issa jorrāelagon nyra?"
"Are you okay my dear Nyra?"

Verena spoke nudging her shoulder into the princess.
Rhaenyra sighed and was about to reply when Alicent appeared.
The bard stopped and payed respect to his Queen.
But this only made Rhaenyra's anger grow.

"Did I say stop.
From the beginning."

Alicent tentatively spoke,

"Rhaenyra. Sister."

"Yes, my Queen."

Rhaenyra replied while her eyes stayed on the book laid in front of her as she spoke.
Verena stayed silent.

"Your presence is wanted in the outer courtyard. The royal hunt is ready to depart."

Verena spoke coldly,

"We have decided to remain here and read instead."

Rhaenyra nodded as Alicent told the bard to go away. This caused Rhaenyra and Alicent to fight though titles.

"You are to stay by order of the Princess."

"The Queen commands you to leave the Godswood at once."

The bard left with a huff.
