The bloated red mass pulsed, tendrils of red reaching out from its base, sky and lake both turning blood red. The apex of the opaque thing fractured, a sharp crackling reverberating (a crackling that strangely came from everywhere at once). Like some kind of grotesque veiny blossom, the top of the massive growth opened up, a mess of writhing tentacles flooding out.
The tentacles reached Tabitha, restraining the shocked girl's limbs and throwing her to the lake surface. Clear water left from Nymph's death splashed up at the impact. The tentacles tightened their grip, holding her down as the other her walked over, the Water Nymph's remains rippling with the double's steps.
"Forget that Water Nymph," the crimson eyed double spoke, leaning down, the double's face inches from hers. "One Tabitha is good, but two is better. Join us." The other her licked her cheek, her breath skipping, her skin crawling. "It will be fun."
Somehow, she managed to slip her right hand free and slugged her other self square in the face. The other her stumbled back, the tentacles loosening. With a burst of strength, she broke free, a look of indignation in her brown eyes, her pan back in her hand. Something else watched her, something familiar yet horrifying.
"The Wretched Eye." She looked up, a cold sweat coming over her. High above, a massive red eye watched from a nest of tentacles. "The thing the other me serves. The thing from those nightmares."
