Bilbo watched as Dwalin walked into his house uninvited. Dwalin looked over to Rose in confusion. Rose quickly undid her braid and let her red-brown hair cover her ears, concealing her race. She knew these dwarves did not like elves.
Rose bowed, and gave Dwalin a smile. "Rose, at your service. I am a Halfblood; half man half dwarf." She gave a rough pat on the back of the dwarf, who was not expecting the great strength of the pat. "What are you, this laddie's wife?" The dwarf said. Rose blushed, but shook her head. She took a step to the right and let Dwalin walk by her.
Bilbo was slightly confused, still staring at the dwarf. "Um..." The hobbit cleared his throat. "Do we know each other?" Dwalin shoved his things into Bilbo's arms. "No." The dwarf looked around. "Which way, laddie? Is it down here?" Bilbo looked suprised. "I-Is what down there-?"
Dwalin walked down the hallway.
"Supper. He said there would be some. And lots of it." Bilbo quickly caught up with him. "H-He said...Who said?" Rose quickly and quietly walked back to the table, wanting to quickly finish her food so Dwalin wouldn't get to it first. She sat down and smiled as the dwarf walked through the door. Dwalin sat down and Bilbo quickly rushed to his plate and gave it to him. "Here...I was going to eat it, but since you came...you may have it."
Dwalin showed no table manners. Rose watched in disgust as the dwarf shoved the fish into his mouth, even eating the head. Bilbo also was watching with a disgusted expression. "Very good, this." Dwalin shoved a couple of pieces of potatoes in his mouth, then talking with a mouthful of food. "Anymore?" Bilbo was dazed with confusion, and Rose had to kick his leg to get him to snap out of the daze. "Hm? O-Oh! Um...of course!" He got off the stool and grabbed a plate full of biscuits. He hesitated for a moment, and when Dwalin wasn't looking, he grabbed two biscuits for him and Rose. He then put the plate in front of the dwarf who began to shove them in his mouth.
There was another knock on the door. Bilbo walked over to Rose. "Um...can you...keep an eye on Dwalin?" Rose nodded. The hobbit went to answer the door. When he opened the door, another dwarf was at the door. The dwarf was old: all of his hair and beard was white. Bilbo gave him a small smile, although he was still confused. The dwarf gave Bilbo a bow. "Balin, at your service." "Good evening." Balin turned around to look at the night sky. "Yes, yes it is. But I heard that it was going to rain later. Am I late?" Bilbo shuffled his feet. "Late for what?
Rose quickly got up when she saw Dwalin get up. She watched as he grabbed a jar of biscuits and he shoves his large hand into the jar, trying to get biscuits. He stopped when another dwarf came in and caught his attention. The older looking dwarf walked in the room with a large smile. "Ah! Evening, brother!" During their conversation, Rose walked over to Bilbo. She gave him a stern look. "Bilbo, I am going out to check and see if any others are coming. Stay here. I think I know what's going on." She began to walk away, but Bilbo grabbed her arm. "No. No, I can't take care of these two. Please stay. What if more come while you are gone?" She grabbed his hand and gave it a pat. "I promise I will be back." Bilbo stared at her as she grabbed her ragged cloak and walked out the door. Bilbo gave out a sigh. Oh, brother.
