Gandalf, Thranduil, Rose, and Bard continued to gaze at the heart of the mountain, which now lay upon them.  "And worth a king's ransom. How is this yours to give?" Bard asked, looking at Bilbo. "I took it as my fourteenth share of the treasure." Rose saw Gandalf smile slightly from the corner of her eye.  "Why would you do this? You owe us no loyalty." Bard spoke, his eyes still on the hobbit. "I'm not doing it for you. I know that dwarves can be obstinate and pigheaded and difficult, suspicious and secretive..." He said. Rose smiled; what he said was true. "With the worst manners you can possibly imagine, but they also brave and kind...and loyal to a fault. I've grown very fond of them, and I would save them if I can."  "Thorin values this stone above all else. In exchange for its return, I believe he will give you what you are owed. There will be no need for war!" Bilbo exclaimed. Rose put a hand on Bilbo's shoulder. "I agree. Even though dwarves are rude and greedy, they still have souls. We can't have war, because that would bring sadness upon the families and friends of people participating in the war." She said.

Every one began to clear out of the tent, but as Rose began to leave, Bilbo and Thranduil both called for her name. Rose turned around and saw the hobbit and the elven king staring at each other. Thranduil nodded at Bilbo, allowing him to go first. Bilbo cleared his throat. "Um, Thorin wanted me to tell you to come back. Everyone misses you, and Thorin would not stop talking about you; how he keeps ordering us to look for you. He doesn't know you left. You have to come back. Plus, your other weapons are in there." Rose nodded. "I will return to the mountain at midnight, thus meeting you there." Bilbo sighed, and walked out of the tent.

Rose turned to Thranduil, her heart beating fast. "What did you need?" Thranduil turned to Rose. He stared at her in the eyes. Rose looked to the ground and bowed. "Forgive me, Lord Thranduil! I was stupid for not listening to you. I deserved all the pain that you have given me, all those years ago." Everything just burst out. Rose looked up, her eyes pleading. "You are a king. My king." She said, bowing again. She felt her eyes tear up, and she flinched when she heard the elven king come closer. But Thranduil spoke. "Rose." He said softly. Rose slowly tilted her head up, and then she lurched forward, embracing the elven king. Thranduil, not surprised by the act, hugged Rose back. "Goheno nin...[Forgive me]" Rose said, burying her face into the elf's shoulder. Thranduil pulled away, staring at Rose. "Legolas; he cares for you. I have seen it in his eyes years ago. When he first met you." Thranduil sighed. "Forgive me as well. I have been cruel to you. Your father was a good friend of mine. You were like a daughter to me, but after Gondallan passed..." He cleared his throat, shaking his head. "You must go back to the mountain. It is almost midnight." Rose nodded, and began to walk to the exit of the tent. "Rose?" She turned around and faced the elven king. Thranduil slightly smiled. "Take care of Legolas."

Rose quietly made her way to Erebor, sneaking through the dark paths. Rose arrived at the gate of Erebor. She heard footsteps, and a head peeked over the large stone wall. "Pssst. Rose! Up here." Bilbo whispered. The elf tilted her head up to the sky and watched a rope fall down the side of the wall. Rose gripped onto the rope and began to climb the stone wall. When she got to the top, Bilbo was waiting there, just as she expected. "Bilbo," Rose said quietly."Do not tell the others that I have been gone." The halfling nodded. "Of course. Sleep well." He said with a yawn. The elf nodded and walked into the corridor, disappearing into the darkness.

It is now morning, and Rose was forced by Thorin to stay. He had threatened her that if she left, then she would never be welcomed back. As Rose walked towards the gates of Erebor, she heard voices. Her shuffles turned into a walk. Then her walk turned into a speed walk. Then she ran. She ran through various hallways and found herself looking at the company of Thorin Oakenshield. Thorin held a bow, and Thranduil and Bard were waiting in front of the ruined bridge with an army elves. "I will put the next one between your eyes!" He threatened. Thranduil gave Thorin a surprised look, while Bard narrowed his eyes slightly. Thorin drew his bow and pointed it back to the elf and man. All the dwarves began to cheer, and they began to shake their weapons. Thranduil angrily glared at Thorin, and he tilted his head a bit. The elves suddenly drew their bows and all of them notched arrows, pointing it towards Rose and the dwarves. The cheers of the dwarves were cut off, and they all ducked for cover behind the wall. Rose felt angered, and somehow betrayed. She wanted to reveal that she was there, but she decided to hide beside a fallen pillar. With the raise of his hand, Thranduil's army put away their weapons. "We've come to tell you: payment of your debt has been offered...and accepted." "What payment? I gave you nothing! You have nothing!" Said Thorin, his bow still drawn. "We have this." Bard reached into his robe and pulled out the Arkenstone, holding the precious jewel over his head. Rose tightened her grip on her bow; she had an ominous feeling.
