Rose heard Fili call after her as she ran away, but she ignored it. She ran through the halls until she could go on no more. Rose gasped for air, and sat on the cold stone floor. Fili ran after her holding a lantern, and just when he was about to give up, he saw a small figure sitting in the middle of a cold, dark room. "Rose!" He yelled. He ran to the elf, and sat next to Rose. "Are you okay? What happened?" Rose stared at the ground, her eyes glistening from the light of the lantern. Rose handed Fili one of her daggers. "End everything." Rose whispered. Fili looked at Rose in shock. "Rose...? Why are you like this? Please, for the love of Mahal, please just be brave. Taking your own life will do nothing but hurt others." Fili said, putting the dagger back into it's sheath. "He tried to kill me." Rose said quietly. "What?" Fili said, looking at Rose. "Thorin. H-He took my bow. He almost killed me." Rose looked up. "It's the dragon sickness, Fili. It's driven Thorin mad." Fili got up. "Come. Let's go back. The others are worried." Rose walked back to where the rest of the company was with Fili. Once she was in sight, all the dwarves began to happily cheer. They all hugged Rose in a group. Rose cheered up a bit, but everything was interrupted. "TO THE GATE! NOW!" Thorin yelled.
The company was forced to block the entrance of Erebor to keep out the people of Laketown. "I want this fortress made safe by sunup. This mountain was hard won - I will not see it taken again." Thorin ordered. "The people of Laketown have nothing. They came to us in need. They have lost everything." Kili said to Thorin, sadness in his voice. "Do not tell me what they have lost." Thorin said angrily. "I know well enough their hardship. Those who have lived through dragonfire should rejoice. They have much to be grateful for." Rose tried to pick up a small boulder, but to no avail. Rose was weak; she hadn't eaten in days, and was tired. Dwalin approached Rose. "Oi. Let me help you." Dwalin said. He lifted up one side of the rock while Rose lifted the other. The carried it to the blocked entrance and Rose placed it into an empty space in the wall. "Thank you, Dwalin."
"More stone! BRING MORE STONE TO THE GATE!" Thorin yelled. Rose sighed, and sat on a rock, her head spinning. She was thirsty as well, she had never had an appetite ever since Rivendell, but now she was hungry and thirsty. Rose put her weapons in the corner of the room, only keeping one of her daggers. Rose grabbed a rope tied to a piller and threw it over the stone wall. "Rose? What are you doing?" Bilbo said, walking to her. Rose stared at Bilbo with a straight face. "Getting food." Bilbo nodded. He understood, because Rose had barely eaten or drank anything ever since the incident with Thorin at Rivendell. "Tell the others that I will be back," Rose said as she climbed down the wall. "And leave the rope still hanging. Thorin wouldn't care if I was gone." She called up to Bilbo. Rose jumped off of the rope and walked away in the darkness of night.
Rose made her way to Dale. The people of Laketown were using Dale as a dwelling. She walked down the stone paths, and she saw Bard, walking towards a crowd of people. "Bard!" Rose called out. She caught his attention. Bard walked to Rose. He embraced the elf in his arms. "I thought you were dead. That was what Alfrid told me." Rose nodded. "These children are starving! We need food!" Rose turned around, and a man stared at her and Bard. "We won't last three days!" The man said in concern. Rose recognized Percy, who stood next to the other man. "Bard, we don't have enough." Percy said. "Do want you can, Percy." Bard told the man. "We need more water." A woman said. "The children, the wounded and the women come first." Bard said. He turned to Rose. "Come with me, but stay behind." Rose nodded. She followed Bard, and they came upon Alfrid, who was sleeping. "Morning, Alfrid. What news from the night watch?" Alfrid woke up instantly. "All quiet, sire, I must report. Nothing gets past me." Rose heard the sound of armor, so she made her way through an old arch, with Bard and Alfrid following. Bard and Rose stopped in their tracks. "Except an army of elves, it would seem." Bard said, slightly chuckling. The courtyard was packed with Mirkwood elves dressed in full battle gear, standing in perfectly ordered lines. The citizens of Laketown began coming out of their buildings and see the elves. Bard walked down the steps and approached the group elves. Some elves turn and step back to make a pathway for Bard. Rose hid behind a dead tree once she spotted Thranduil. King Thranduil rides up to Bard on his elk.
